Probably a better explanation, they didn't test it.

Usually they don't crash a LC/LX in crash tests, either.

I was reading a copy of CR. They concluded that the $45K GX (full time 4WD, 2UZ) was virtually the same as the $30K 4runner SR5 part-time 4WD, 1GR) and not worth the extra $15K. That's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Had they compared the $40K 4runner limited V8 to the GX, the price difference would have only been $5K. With the LC vs. LX, the price difference is still $10-15K for comparably-equipped vehicles.
