Best and Worst Used Cars - MSN Autos

This is interesting, the LC was recommended as a used vehicle however the LX was not. The GX was also recommended. I wonder why the LX did not make the list and all these other Lexi and Toyota did.

I thought from a reliability point the LX and LC were about the same.

Any thoughts?

I agree with Trunk Monkey on that one.... Lexus all come with that AHC (what years I dunno), and of course being 'Lexus' it's gonna cost..... I'd rather stick with the Land Cruiser myself. At least it isn't trying to pose as anything it's not. To me the Lexus is trying to pose as this really upscale vehicle when really all it is, is a different nose, and some added features that MAYBE the Land Cruiser doesn't have. Not all those features are desirous either!

It must be that they did not review the LX since it is so similar to the LC mechanically. I did a quick search and found consumer reports (source of the MSN article) reviews of the LC, but no reports on the LX. I also found a consumer reports list of the best vehicles for off-road driving in 2005. They list:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Best 4WDs for Off-Road Driving
Chevrolet Avalanche
Chevrolet Silverado
Ford F150
Kia Sorento
Land Rover Freelander
Lexus GX470
Nissan Titan
Toyota 4Runner
Toyota Land Cruiser
Toyota Tundra
Volkswagen Touareg
Worst 4WDs for Off-Road Driving
Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Ford Expedition
Ford Explorer
Ford Explorer Sport Trac
GMC Envoy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To have the GX on the list of off-road capable vehicles and not the LX just proves that point. If not, then I can extrapolate that the Kia Sorento is better than the LX off-road. :princess:

I dont believe Consumer Reports anymore. I've seen some review a year before where some certain item had made it to the top. Then the next year, it has rated this item out of the list.

I also don't pay attention to CR. They seem to contradict themselves often...

CR goes by real-world reader surveys only. They do not get enough returned surveys on the LX so they do not rate them. That's all it means.

Because things happen.

2005 Rx8 was recommended and rated "average".

A recall/check for a CPU flashed caused a recall. Reliability dropped to "below average" so they no longer recommended it. We all got our CPU re-flashed and on we went.

In 2007/8 the Rx8 is not back to "average" again compared to other vehicle types.

Crap happens. There testing process is well proven whether you believe it or not.

Wow, a whopping 3 American cars on the recommended list.

yeah on the worst list there is no Japanese. There pretty much American and German.

WHOA! This ISN'T about reliability. MY BAD!

No, they did not test the LX470 in their mag. Only the Cruiser.

The list above is not based on RELIABILITY. It's based on capability.

Reliability is an entire other list. Foir example the worst rated in reliability (and therefore they do NOT recommend them) are:

Land Rover Freelander

Volkswagen Touareg

These two ARE on the capability list because they are capable off the highway in their testing.

The Land Rover Freeloader was a piece of junk. A single speed case, coupled to a crap JATCO french made transmission..... Just haul it directly to the junk yard off the lot after purchase, that should tell you more than enough about the heap.

Go ahead......someone aske me about the LR3s.....I dare you. I've been trying to unload one since last September.
