Can't disagree with the above. Really for weekend adventures and such, the toughness of a landcruiser is not necessary... and the fuel mileage is not desirable.
I still want to know how it is that you can't sleep in your 80? My girlfriend, me, and our cat literally LIVE in our 60... the bed is huge by our standards! We've even slept in the back once without folding down the back seat.

Whatever you do, DON'T sell your truck and buy an FZJ80 ! ! ! Sure the FZJ will have more giddyup, but I think there's a reason the 3FE is basically the same engine that was used for 20+ years and the 4.5L was phased out after just 5.

"3F-E Powa!"

:flipoff2:

 wrooooong....

You do realize that the FZJ was still being produced in Venezuela up til 2007....WITH the 1FZ?

And the 100/105 is being used with the 1FZ-FE and not the ALMIGHTY 3FE ;)

Oh and the FZJ7x series...2007 WITH 1FZ-FE

and it looks like the power was bumped at some point to 240Hp

How long was the 3FE produced???

So NO, the 1FZ was not PHASED out after 5 years...although I"m not sure if it's available on the 2008's but thats 15+ years of basically the same engine. TOyota redsigned that headgasket so I"M guessing all of the models past 97 probably don't have these issues.

The V8 was made for more power, lower emissions...NOT because the 1FZ sucked. ;p

I'm not dogging the 3FE, it's a good motor...but I personally wouldn't run it over the 1FZ.

Just a bit of truthful info... :D

If you consider that the 1-2-3f are only different in stroke......

And when was production stopped on it, I see threads all the time in 70's tech

:flipoff2:

and that important thing called "INJECTION" :D:flipoff2:

the 70 series were produced starting in 84-85....so yes it probably was an engine that was in the 70 series.

So was this 3FE only around for 2ish years? thats a serious question

Granted, it's a good engine...but a dog...

I think the reason you see 3FE's with low mileage is because they are so slow people haven't been able to drive that many miles in them :flipoff2:

Sue you for slander!...:flipoff2:

I meant the blocks :whoops:

Then you can count out your precious CARBED 1fz's too!

And I guess if you wheeled in the 200hp  range then yes, the :p 1fz, until then Iron on Iron baby! (the one that shrugs :meh: at heat, 300k miles, and gimme a big timing wha? GEARS! :D)

If it had 9:1 compression it would rock! (stock is 8:1:1 :frown:)

I'll take a camed 2FE with 9:1 over a twin cam aluminum head any day!

You got 7 mains though.....:frown:...I loose.

hey, don't be addin' tech into this :D

Meh...I see one downfall on the 80's...and thats the headgasket that some people have problems with, and others dont :meh: so you fix that and then there's no issues...

pesky heater hose...cheap fix, not fun...but cheap

has anyone ever had a timing chain break on a 1FZ?

I believe there are a few FZJ's past the 300k mark :D

and since we all WHEEL to work, and WHEEL every day, you're right...what do you need extra HP for?

:hhmm:

thats right, the ability to actually merge onto a freeway ramp in under 14 seconds. ;p Or go up a hill that a bus load of dirty hippies in the VW van WON"T pass us :flipoff2:

Don't get me wrong...the FZJ's have a lot of exra crap/fluff that's probably not needed...I mean...why toyota went to a more horsepower, full floater rear, 4 wheel disc brakes, Electric lockers front and rear is just BEYOND me :meh:

:flipoff2:....again...I'm not bashing the FJ80's...

and tech...yes gear it if you are going to run bigger tires...ANY rig is going to feel sluggish when you start adding bigger tires.

BOTH FJ80's and FZJ80's start to feel that way when larger tires are added. Gears will help some and put some pep into the feel of the rig.

I would adjust that transmission cable, throw some gears and run the living piss out of the rig. For what you are wanting to do, it will do fine.

you know what I am gonna say...........
