Hey I know we used to go here a lot and I loved it. My dad just bought a Polaris Ranger 4x4 and it would be fun for him to drive it down in there. Anyone know when it is open?? Thanks guys.

Usually September 1 unless hunting season opens the Saturday before.
FYI, it is all gravel now and is owned by SC Dept of Natural Resources, who patrol it aggressively. Mind your beer, lest you want to part w/$107.50.

Incidentally, you can drive in 5 miles to Laurel Fork Gap and that road stays unlocked year around.

Ken, you are a font of wisdom.

$107.50. Hum, makes me wonder how he knows this!!

Here in FLA, blaze orange vests are required in the woods during hunting season, even if you are not huning. I suspect the same in SC.

GET YOURS FOR FREE AT THE ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEANUPS! :D

Quads(four wheelers) require hunting license on board to not be fined. No Quads on Sunday.
Not my rules;DNR rules

Muster Grounds opens at the same time. The roads aren't as
'improved" . ;) No hunters on Sunday so chances of being shot
should be less. :grinpimp:

Not that I am a wimp but . . . .

an "improved" road sounds like an "expedition road" to those of us in the double half-caff latte crowd. Could be a fun weekend for those of us, like me, who are a little hesitant to put our more "restored" cruisers in harms (or JP's) way. OK I am a wimp. Just wait until I find the funds to armor up my 62 . . .

Capt., its good to know that blaze orange is also required in the Florida woods during hunting season. Up to now, I thought that it was just required on the streets of Miami . . . .

Yeah

We'll have to meet up and go some Sunday it is a pretty ride with gorgeous views of Jocassee off Jump Off Rock. Let's get it together once hunting season rolls around. It was my first trip in my cruiser when I bought it 8 years ago. First time I met David Harrison, the three stooges had wheeled in and camped and David rolled in that morning to introduce himself. Aww..........memories.

Camping with the 3 stooges......wow....that 's some great memories.
I still pull out those old Horse Pasture/Muster Grounds tapes every now
and then. All those creek crossings. The mud holes. The wash out
wheel stands. Great memories. Fuzzy avatar is from the washout.
The Muster Grounds would be a good stocker run too.

I went up there several weeks ago, our recollection is the trails re-open 15 Sept., or something like that. I'm looking forward to it.
Most of the side trails have been bermed or ditched or gated off. Some of the berms and ditches look like they may be get-by-able by aggressive long-legged cruisers.
We did find one trail that's not obstacled. It's right where the Foothills trail tangents the road in. We went down it a mile or so, it's close with the pinstripe-makers but passable, then crosses a creek and faces an awesome hillclimb. I let it go at that point thinking about my rear diff and the brokenteeth/Beasley's Knob syndrome. I'd love to tackle it with an accomplice vehicle. There's an old No Trespassing sign near the entrance, the trail may be on some ancient private property, which would explain it not having been disabled like the others.
Anyhoo . . . if anyone wants to do a recon ring me up, I love that area and will tackle most anything if there's spotting/snatching/winching help at hand.
Otherwise . . . let's do it in September.

Yeah, let's put it in the books, that is around my b-day. I can take the lead if needed. I bet Jeff would like to go also.
