Al,

I agree that it is a sucker punch and it sucks at first but I'm thinking only good can come out of this. You are just getting a jump start on something better. You might not know what it is this very second but you will figure it out.

Who knows maybe you will start your own business and instead of working for the man, you will be the man.

Good luck brother.

Al,
Dang nabit! My brother experienced the Happy Holiday send off in his previous two jobs...BUT it did lead to him find a way better company and job.

If you need someone to review your resume, let me know. I review them for my college students all the time. As others here have said, spice it up and think about what you want to do. There are jobs out there.

If you need anything else, let me know.

That is some seriously s***ty news Al. As everyone is saying, take the lemons that have been given to you and make them into the best damn lemonade that you can. If there's anything I / we can do to help, let us know.

Thanks for all the support guys it means a lot. This really is a great group. I do hope if I have to sell the cruiser that i'll still be allowed to come to the events :frown:
Anyway sent of a bunch of apps and resumes yesterday and then got good and trashed after spending some time with my niece and nephew. (nothing like booze and very loud 80's/90's metal to deal with emotions, at least that's how men do it right ;))
Right now any job that pays the bills would be good, don't really like the idea of being on unemployment for very long, there is other uses that money could go to in the country.

I was planning on leaving that place within the next year anyway but not like this. I was going to take my classes to be a commercial real-estate appraiser starting next semester but might have to drop them when they start if the funds aren't available. My new brother-in-law has is a big wig in a firm out west and while in Scotland over summer pretty much talked me in to it.

As far as experience works, I have 7 years in CSR and Dispatch, Dispatch supervisor from previous jobs.
I have 4 1/2 years in the trucking industry. 1 year of official manager experience (even though I pretty much ran that place for a year before that due to the previous manager not doing anything.)
5 years in child car (day care, summer camp, after school care)

I have an AS in Fire Technology
BA in Health/Business Admin
No actual experience in the health field other than the EMT class I had to take for Fire Tech, got the certificate but never actually took the test to get state certification back in Cali. Worked 2 weeks on an ambulance as a ride along and 2 weeks in the Burbank Presby ER.
After I got my degree last year and while I was in the classes for Health Admin I searched for medical jobs in the area but everything wanted experience first and I could never get my foot in the door.

Right now as long as I can find something that comes close to my previous level of pay (which wasn't much) i'd be happy even if it is cleaning toilets

Josh/Brian sent you the resume, Quinton I don't have your email address.

Look at www.usajobs.gov. post a resume on there.
sounds like u have some dispatch experience. Was that with a fire/police department? I assume u want to stay n the charlotte area. If u need help with usa jobs resume let me know.

No, I almost did take a job with 911 in L.A. before we moved out here.

I was a senior dispatcher at AAA and a dispatch auditor for Roto Rooter

Hate to hear the news Al. pretty well rounded exp so I would think you should find something fast. What kind of trucking exp do you have?

Al they ought to give you that powder coater and maybe you could get a loan and start a PC business. I'm sure you have experience in that. I know how you feel though. Im losing my day job in a few months and have plans to strike out on my own. I'm sure you will find something. The economy, while at rock bottom, is starting to look up and there are some jobs becoming available.

Al, sorry to hear this crappy news. Don't really have much else to offer since I have zero Charlotte contacts, or any in your industry, but I'll echo the words of encouragement. URE trip is a must - we'll take care of our folks and you shouldn't have to spend a dime, and you might find your next gig when you least expect it. Great opportunity to network some.

Al,

Have you had any luck thus far?

As of now not yet.... I have decided to take the commercial appraisal classes next semester and David has offered to hook me up with a buddy of his that does that in the charlotte area. Right now i'm just living on unemployment and finding odd manual labor jobs to get by. Looks like Andrea will be getting a promotion soon and more $$$ so that will help.

Good to hear your getting some help, also good news for Andrea. Will keep my eyes out and I am sure the others who have responded are to.

Al did you ever reach out to the guys at Barefoot and company that i sent the info for via email?

I'll have to check on that one Josh...... i've sent off so many things recently it blurs together. I may have missed your email, i'll take a look.
