A guy is willing to trade me his 1997 FZJ-80 (seats 11, no fender flares!, 1FZ-F carb'ed gas engine, dual fuel tanks, H155 5-spd stick shift, HF1A part-time 4wd) for my 1996 GMC Suburban (also with L65 turbo-diesel and 4L80E auto-tranny; K2500).

In my garage here in the Philippines I have a junked L65 Chevy 6.5L turbo-diesel which is missing a lot of parts and really needs a lot of work to resurrect. I have this option of bringing it back to life and putting it in the upcoming FZJ-80. I really like the idea 'coz we idle a lot here in standing-still traffic and that I need it carry heavy loads up hills with bad roads. And that diesel fuel is a lot more common outside the cities. What I don't like is the presumed high costs with that project (L65 parts and Marks 4WD adapter kit).

Or should I forgo the L65 td for another project? But in the interests of fuel economy and power and better off-camber performance off-road, I want to convert the carb'ed 1FZ-F into EFI. Obviously, I need a lot of Toyota 1FZ-FE parts like: intake manifold, mass air flow meter, fuel injectors, fuel rails, fuel pumps, fuel surge tank, crankshaft position & coolant temp & throttle position sensors, etc., exhaust manifold with welded-on O2 sensor, a big-arse wiring harness, a MegaSquirt computer ... The downside is I've never done anything like this, nor anybody I know. Closest thing I've seen is http://www.oatsoda.com/fuel_injection BTW, I already have all related Toyota parts & labor & wiring manuals. so that's give me confidence in this project,

Or should I leave the 1FZ-F well enough alone? (My least favored option.)

I need to make a decision fast 'coz I'll be in NorCal this Sunday (Nov 28) evening for a coupla weeks only, to get everything I need.

that 6.5 is huge. I think the toyota diesel would be better. 4.2l and parts easily found, especially in asia.
interesting that diesel fuel is easier found outside the cities for you. for canada it is opposite. I have to keep to truck areas and not all gas stations carry diesel. actually frustrating
