Hey guys,

We're having colder mornings lately so I've started noticing longer crank time and some white smoke come out on the initial combustion (1 sec).
So I got thinking that it would be an issue with the glow plugs, the light on the dash comes for like 1 sec.

First thing I checked was the fuse box (inside) and there is no fuse terminals or wiring where the 7.5A 'GLOW' fuse should go.

I'm kind of lost here now, can't find much on the web either. There is one set of wires that's taped up on the harness (red + green wires), so I checked that on the glow plug with the multi-meter but didn't pick anything up. Note: I did disconnect the battery, would this affect the reading?

Can anyone reference what the wires should look like?

Cheers

The glow system will get power through a dedicated fusible link coming right off the battery. Basically a special type of wire with a fabric looking sleeve over it, probably about 4” long and going to a small terminal block on the battery harness.

Hi @AirheadNut,

Thanks for the info, I did some more snooping around and was able to find a wiring diagram from legend @GTSSportCoupe posted.

The fuse box kick panel inside, says GLOW on one of them and as I said above there's no terminals or wiring, BUT the original wiring manuals it has no glow fuse like you say.

Long story short, I found the glow plug relay and tested that, it measured 60 Ohm so i figured that's acceptable?
Next cold morning, I turned the key from OFF to ACC about 4 times, it fired up straight away, so I know they are working they are just turning off too soon for some reason.

I'm getting closer to a solution, I really hope it's not the ECU

Cheers

Where can I find more information on the ECU issues? I was having similar issues to you until finally my car didn’t start. Now my glowplug light doesn’t even come on (I do hear a click) and I’m not getting fuel at the injectors either. So im curious to learn more about the ECU and how to test it. I already pulled mine and the board looks good to me

This is what the fusible links look like, coming right off the positive battery terminal. Test for continuity and voltage drop across the link. If you are getting good voltage to the glow plug bus bar, but the glow plugs aren't active for long enough your coolant temp sensor might be bad. Not sure where that is located on a 1KZ, on a 2LT-E it is under the intake manifold.
