Im having a few problems with my KZJ70. It starts and runs ok but I get a lot of acrid grey smoke on startup and it runs really rough until it warms up and then it runs fine. MPG is definitely down and it seems to be down on power too.

Not loosing coolant or oil.

So far I have:
Changed the fuel filter
Replaced the glow plugs
Checked the valve clearances
Replaced the injectors
Visually checked fuel pump and lines for leaks
Put 60L of quality diesel in the tank
Fuel pick up from tank was replaced about 4 years ago so should be fine.
Compression feels fine (4 definite compression strokes when turning the crank by hand).

Not sure what else to check really and getting pretty tired of throwing good money after bad. Thinking maybe injection pump timing but Im not sure how to check that on this engine/pump?

Any ideas?

This doesnt mean anything because a diesel with low compresssion can still have 150 psi or more.
You are also down on power and fuel economy which is unfortunately pointing to a tired engine.
You need to do a compression test before throwing anymore money into it.

How many klms on the clock?

T or TE?
if E then check the wire to the temp sensor ...
start cheap and work up.

So far I have:
Radiator built new radiator (4 core) fan had gone through the radiator on rollover :( rats
new air cond core it was falling apart
Changed the fuel filter
Replaced the injectors
rebuilt fuel pump

I'm having exactly the same startup issues however mine (the green 1kZ) has to sit for 6 hours before the symptoms show up we think its a result of the rollover looks like a turbo seal or worse a head issue. Mine also now overheats at 100k upwards randomly some hills overheats others does not and sometimes on the flat also completely random.

Water pump and hoses to be replaced today then a retest but i suspect the worst coming :(

As you say its a 1KZT..
And on start up when cold its blowing grey smoke. (Timing retarded)
That tells me it could have timing issues with the thermo wax unit that adjusts the timing when cold. (if fitted) to confirm you have one on the side of the injector pump there will be two water hoses going into a unit...It retards the timing a bit for easier starts.
Or your IP could need timing.
Here is a section I copied from the injector pump manual.

The latest issue of ya favourite 4x4 mag has a large section on diesel smoke , maybe you could get something out a its info

Id go with the timing as i had the same problem with my truck recently , and the timing was way out now its starts great just a wee puff of black smoke
