Ok half way done my knuckle rebuild, ready to do the re-assembly. I have done this job twice before and never ran into this problem. I replaced the shims that were on the knuckle before with the matching new ones, however, once I tighten down the four bolts top and bottom, which I am doing evenly, the knuckle won't pivot back and forth anymore. Someone told me that if I add more shims it will lighten the load on the bearing thus it should be able to pivot. So I am just not sure how much to add and if it should be on the top, bottom or both? What will this effect once done? Or is there some other way to fix this problem?

how many shims do that have top and bottom so far?

well the top i have one thick and one thin andthe bottom just has one thin one....there was only two thicknesses of shims that came in my kit.

Without a centering tool you,ll just have to add equal amount of shims top and bottom ,The knuckles can be fairly tight as they are timken type bearings more than the inch pounds they call for. Some may disagree but ive yet to have any failures.the only time I had problems is when a piece of brass got under the race from the drift installing it.
