FWIW When I did my knuckles Kurt from cruiser outfitters suggested putting the shims back in like I found them and all should be good. Also, see comment in this thread.

We stock the tool @ Cruiser Outfitters in Murray (Utah), but yes, we generally recommend replacing factory shimming (.5mm on bottom) and verify preload and adjust on top only.
