knuckle arm shims (1 Viewer)

Are there _always_ shims where the steering arm attaches to the knuckle? I don't know why but I was expecting shims inside the knuckle and once I realized where they were supposed to be I don't see any. The top plate on the knuckle has a couple of shims the size of the plate, but I didn't notice and haven't found anything on the ground or in the old grease that resembles a shim. Will they come off without actually taking them off? Thanks.

no shims on the lower arm to the knuckle. The only shims are the ones on the top pin.
