Right guys Ive been building a FJ40 buggy for over a year now and a couple of months ago I decided to change the engine/gearbox combo. I will now be running a lexus 4L V8 and the LC 4 speed box with the later model split case T/case.

Anyway in the quest for lower gears I looked at the marlin toybox with the 4.7 low range. After getting a good response from poeple using them here on Mud I contacted Marlin ready with the money in hand.

6 weeks later I havn't had much luck with them replying to my emails (I live in New Zealand) so I went looking for another option and the Klune V extreme underdrive appeared. I sent the guy an email and got a reply a couple of days later. GREAT!

I can remember Klune V from back in the early days of Rockcrawling but havn't seen them round much lately....

SO BACK ONTO POINT!!!

Does anyone have experience with these units? The concept of the planetry gears appeals to me.

my buddy runs one, it's a tough unit, geared low as hell and the cable shifters are sweet....they've been around for a long time and have a good reputation

They are not interested when dealing with "foreign" enquiries or orders. Complacent and inward-looking is probably why. I contacted them about my 1UZ-FE 79 series Land Cruiser as well back in 2005- very unenthusiastic.

Look elsewhere

The Black Box is the same design as the Klune V, only difference I think is the extra support bearing in one end of the box compared to Klunes bushing and shims.

Don`t quote me on that as this was a conversation some time ago with Kyle at Northwestfab.

Kyle is deeply commited the the Lexus motor and offering some type of adapter for his Black Box, pretty sure nothing has been started for R&D.
