I am thinking of coming down from the bay area on Thursday to be there for the Friday race. What is the spectator situation like? I have never been to the KOH event but have always wanted to go. Suggestions for planning?
 
This will be my first year as well but due to the desert race accident earlier this year the spectator experience will be completely different than years past. Check this link out for the new spectator rules and regulations. King of the Hammers

Bring goggles and warm clothes. The wind can get pretty nasty down there!

I've departed...and am presently holed up for a bit on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln...120 miles in 3 hours this morning is NOT fun!
 
1st bottle of rye is already gone...maybe that explains why I can't see the road...

gonna try to make it this year, will have to see how the shop is doing. but i'll be hitching a ride with rustynuts in the toyhauler if we go. woody, pm me your cell # so i can get a holdofya when we get close. would'nt mind camping next to you.

I have been told that the cell coverage is horrilbe in that area and you typically have to drive back out to the Hwy to make calls.
Yeah, AT&T has decent coverage, there is a spot called the "cell phone spot" that works for others but with the amount of people out here, I doubt it will work very well either.

On the lakebed now...as you come into the main Spectator/Camping road, and into the main HammerTown camping area, my gooseneck is on the right side....big Blue Ribbon Coalition banner on the back and flying a RockCrawler.com flag below the American flag.

B E A U T I F U L day here today...bring your sunscreen! It's sunny and pushing 80 degrees...and the wind picked up this afternoon...
 
Watch out for the bomb craters...............Flew out an FToy driver a few weeks ago who failed to navigate them correctly.
