My daughter tested out her front bumper not once, but TWICE on two victims 😁 . Neither accidents were her faults, however, she needs to drive more defensively as she found out the hard way.

Vehicle #1 grandma tried to go across four lanes of traffic and turn left after leaving Albertsons. This happened when the high school down the street let out :slap:. Oh, she got hit on the same door two weeks prior.

Isabelle got pics and vids, including the phone # of the eyewitness, Greg, who is the security guard at the McDonald's. His testimony sealed the deal.

vehicle #2 tried to flip a U turn right after crossing an intersection and BAM. Yes, this is legal and you CAN go across double yellow lanes in NM. I learned something new after that phone call with my own ins adjuster. We have to pay out for this one. :bang:

Isabelle was on her way to the Prom when this happened. Yet, she managed to do a full picto documentation with a video of the scene, the other driver's info and all that. I'm so proud of her.

Insurance co #1 paid me. Waiting on ins co #2.

Got two estimates and both are at the same dollar value. Guess what? Body shops don't touch vehicles this old!!!

I'm thinking this could be lucrative for us. By doing this periodically, we can totally upgrade her 3rd gen and put away money for college .

Two new DIY battering rams are on order from True North Fabrications.

Glad she is ok! I hope she is not learning that in order to upgrade your vehicle accessories you have to crash it first. There are other ways!

Got a link to her soon-to-be bumper? Looks like they have a few options.

Gulp.

My 15 year old just got their provisional license…
…glad we kept Ye Olde Oldsmobile in the fleet…

Good luck out there parents!
Stay patient and loving.

I have to tell you it's fun as hell driving with her, at least for me. My ex-wife was a wreck throughout the whole process and still can't be a calm passenger when Isabelle drives. However, she doesn't freak me out and I think she drives quite well with lots of confidence. This is probably due to the fact that she's been driving the 80 since she was nine or ten, and we have a solid connection in that arena. Perhaps my tolerance is high for shenanigans?

Speaking of shenanigans, here are some winter play videos that fortified her driving skills

My driving school is now open for business, bring yer 15yo 😁

Disclaimer. I ain't a dad. But, I did have the fun of teaching a young lady how to drive a stick ... in Baja! This was the trip where I was "kidnapped" by the Mexican Army before I met up with this family.

Love it!

I hear you!

I’m confident in my child, it’s the rest of the folks in ABQ that make me nervous!

First two crashes out of the way and she gets to learn how to weld!!

That girl already knows how to weld. She welds better than I do.

The 5 speed manual lesson is under way and it's painful to watch from the outside 😁

That's fun. I should get my dad to bring his '83 FJ60 over so my kids can have a go at a manual transmission. It's been 10 years since I had a car with one.

Good deal.

Jack was easy. He has been riding a dirtbike for a long time just had to learn to use his feet. I had him drive to the mailbox and back in 4 low so he could practice shifting.
I learned in my dad's '63 GMC (Camper Special). It has a 305 V6 and an SM420 transmission so a very low 1st gear granny gear along with a torquey motor. It was very forgiving starting out even though once you get the hang of it you need to start in 2nd gear most of the time. The challenges with that truck are the shift lever is about 8' long, the steering wheel 3' in diameter, no power steering and no power brakes. Dad got the truck about 1980 and he has promised it to me when he passes.
