Ok, long story short, my brother is a bonehead and lost the only key fob and factory key we had for the 80. We have another key fob that looks identical from my mom's old '97 Camry. Can this remote be taken to the dealer and reprogrammed for the 80, or better yet, is it something I can do myself? Fortunately we still have a master key and a valet key that were cut by the PO, so I can get a new key made. Thanks

Ary

Yes, that remote will work.

BTW....

I went to Autozone yesterday and they are now offering the service to program factory FOBs. If you have one already programmed, it was only like $50. Not sure if you're missing them all together.

50 bucks? For a 91-97 Cruiser?

It takes 2 minutes and a paper clip. I'll do it for 25 bucks all day long...:D

That would be 25 bucks more than I get now..........

Replace the battery. Go to a dealer, find the youngest kid out there and say "hey can you help me? I replaced the battery in this thing and now my remote won't work. No, I didn't buy the car here I bought it from _________ Toyota across town, I was just in your area so I'd thought I'd stop in- but a Toyota's a Toyota, right? I thought it only took a second to do this..."

In 5 minutes you will be on your way.. :)

The 50 included a new FOB obviously, but is it really that easy to reprogram one?

Care to enlighten? I don't know why I bother wth the information as mine is not factory, but might as well file it away somewhere. Thanks

The alarm manual has the procedure in there, but I don't have it here.

I'll try to look it up within the next day or so.

Basically, you turn the car on push the button on the alarm controller, push the button on the fob, maybe something else thrown in there. It only takes a minute.

I just bought a fob from the dealer for $75? or so.

Read your post again, you did not mention a fob was included. The statement infered that it was a programming charge only.

BTW, smart shoppers get a genuine one for about $51.55......:D

If they stop by, the paper clip job is free.....:D

Dan, I may decide to pick up a second one from you. In that event, will you include the paperclip directions with the fob? :D

BTW, who in the world came up with the word "fob" or does it stand for something?

rs 3000 programming instructions

Hi,

I have step by step directions with illustrations...PM me with your email and I will send them to you.

Too late Dan, already got the directions from Rob(Thanks Rob!).

I may still order one next week though. Along with a FSM and some other stuff.
