I am a '91 FJ80 and I am having a problem with my key not rotating all the way so I can remove it when I park my cruiser. The key will rotate to shut off the motor but until I put the key back in the "on" position and shift out of park and then back into park the key won't release. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks for any help.

My 97 fzj80 did that after a 1" body lift. I have to give the shift lever an extra nudge forward in the park position sometimes.

Sometimes I have to jiggle the steering wheel, give that a try

That's the same with mine. Took me awhile to figure that one out for the first time but now when my key is stuck, I just push foward on the shifter and it unlocks the key cylinder.

Sometimes I have to turn the key (enough to almost restart the engine) then rotate the steering wheel, put it back in park, and then pull out the key in one quick motion. I have even had to start the engine, put it in reverse for a few feet, drive forward a few feet, put it back in park again and then pull out the key.

It is the most annoying feature of this rig.:bang:

i have to give my shifter a little tap forward when placed in park for the key to release, after a while it becomes habit

I just had this happen with our 2002 Celica.

Seems my gf put the car in park before coming to a complete stop and something gets bound up in there.

Strangely enough, she got the key out when she got out - but when we put the key back in to start the car - it wouldnt come out.

Had to pop that little oval cover off near the shifter, and press the park release button to get the shifter to move properly and allow the key to be released from the ignition.

I've also been having issues with a broken thumb button on the shifter and I noticed when the button was too far in (rubber bands) the key would not release... When I pulled the button out a litte the key released fine...

I'm done with my broken stock shifter and will be installing a B&M sport shifter..Anybody know if I can disable that function when installing the new shifter?? I also need a power wire, reverse light wire and neutral saftey wire preferabbly already at the shifter...Any Ideas??
