2004 Lexus LX470 that the China and factory key fobs will only occasionally lock/unlock the doors. I have an auxiliary battery running through an automatic battery cut off switch but up until now hasn’t affected the lock/unlock operation. I have disconnected the battery for 30 minutes but the didn’t help.
Any advise would be appreciated!

I bought two aftermarket switchblade type keys to go with my factory key. I added the two with techstream and they work fine except the lock/unlock buttons. To get those to work, I had to follow the key programming sequence that involves you sitting in the LX and going through them to add the lock and unlock feature to all of them. Not sure exactly how each is added other than to say that they didn’t function until after I redid all three at once and hit each button once they were added.

I disconnected the battery again and then went through the programming sequence again and now they are functioning properly!
Thanks for the reply’s guys!

Mind sharing where you bought the switchblade fobs and got the keys cut? I need to do this for my 2006.

Apologies for slow reply. 1010Keys on e-bay. Learned about them here. You just take a picture of your key and send it to them.

I just got my rig and neither fob will open/lock the doors. The car battery was dead when I got it, I wondered if that had anything to do with the fobs not working. Sounds like it's possible, if not probable. Can anyone provide that programming sequence or point me in the right direction if it's already on the site somewhere. I'm also new to the site with my new rig. Thanks

this works, follow it closely. Once it reacts that it is in programming mode, you should be able to hit both buttons on the key and it'll work. Worst case scenario, get Techstream and program new fobs that way.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what I tried multiple times to no avail. I'll try it again tomorrow. I know the battery is good because I replaced it even though the little LED would blink when I hit a button. Perhaps my timing was off a bit... My rig is a 99 so I'm not positive the procedure is the same but jeez, they didn't really change these rides for years so I'm guessing it should be good.

Am not sure but it took me a couple to get the timing right. Not sure if the 99 is same though.

This video helped me last week with 2 new fobs, hopefully it will help you too.

Here is step by step method.
Step 1__
Key out of ignition. Driver’s door open, all other doors closed
Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch TWICE.
Close and open driver’s door twice.
Step 2__
Within 40 seconds of step 1. Key out of Ignition. Driver's door open, all other doors closed.
Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch ONCE
Close and open driver’s door twice.
Step 3__
Within 40 seconds of step 2. Key out of Ignition. Driver's door open, all other doors closed.
Insert the key in ignition and leave it inserted. Close the driver door.
Turn the key to ON position and turn it to ACC position AND TAKE OUT THE KEY FROM IGNITION.
The Door locks will LOCK AND UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY ONCE.

Step 4__ Within 40 seconds of step 3. All Door closed. Hit LOCK and UNLOCK Buttons simultaneously on Your new KEYFOB for 1.5 Seconds.
Within 3 seconds, either Hit Lock Or Unlock on your New Key fob. Your new key fob should now lock and unlock your car.

To exit programming mode. Open your Driver's Door and Insert the key into Ignition.
Maximum of 4 keys can be programmed.

To Erase all Keys.
While you are ON STEP 3
Turn the key to From ACC To ON position 5 Times AND TAKE OUT THE KEY FROM IGNITION. This will erase all keys from car's memory.

I have a '99 and have had this same issue for years with my FOBs. Lock/Unlock does nothing. Tried steps 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions - https://northcoastkeyless.com/1999-toyota-land-cruiser-keyless-entry-remote-fob-programming-instructions/ here and . Neither worked.

Well I don't have Techstream but I did pick up a Launch Creader V2.0. I haven't tried it for a key fob yet but was disappointed in what was available to access in the one time I plugged it in. I'm back from vacation so I'll have to give it another look.

Now the maximum of four keys is interesting to me. I've not heard that before, my two keys are both non-Lexus/Toyota keys. But now that last bit about erasing all keys from the car's memory makes me a bit nervous. Is that just the FOB lock/unlock or do I wind up not being able to use my keys to start the car...

The remote fob part is separate from the immobilizer chip so you can delete one without the other.
I didn't realize this until I order these replacement keys and could see the immobilizer chip itself in the fob housing and could code it to the security system without the remote being in the body of the fob.

OK, understood. My LX is a 99 so we'll have to see if this will work for me. I'm very curious and would be VERY happy if I could get my FOB's working!

The method in the video is for 2003 to 2007. Your car is 1999. Techstream won't program your key fob transmitter for wirelessly locking and unlocking your car's doors.
Techstream is only used for programming the tiny chip in the key fob to the ECU of the car, so you can start your car using the new OEM or aftermarket key.

For 1999 to 2002 cars this following method is used for programming the key fob.
Program a New Key (1999-2002):

  1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
  2. Insert your existing master key into the ignition. Do Not Turn!
  3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
  4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
  5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
  6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
  7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
  8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.
To delete all but one Master key from the ECU (1998-2002):

  1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
  2. Insert an existing master key into the ignition cylinder. Do Not Turn!
  3. Within 15 seconds of inserting the key, depress and release the accelerator pedal 6 times.
  4. Within 20 seconds of completing the above step, depress and release the brake pedal 7 times.
  5. The Security light will flash, indicating all keys other than the one being used have been deleted.
  6. Remove the key from the ignition cylinder within 10 seconds.

That looks like you're programming a new key vs just the lock/unlock function of the key fob.
