Has anyone here had any issues with their key fob? Lately I've had intermittent problems where I wasn't able to lock or unlock the door, and often I would have to touch the fob to the start button to start the car. Obviously my first thought was to change the battery, but after doing so, I'm still having the same issues. I'm wondering if maybe I got a bad battery, or if it's actually the fob. Anyone with similar issues?

I'm guessing you probably just got a stale battery. I'd try a new one - prefereably an Energizer ECR1632 ;)

HTH

Edit to add: Do you see the same issue with both fobs?

FOBs rule! /hijack

@Skiime:

Any luck with a new battery?

Did you try the other fob?

Okay, so this is the weirdest thing...Both key fobs work all the time, except for one specific location. Whenever I drop off or pick up my daughter from school, I can't lock or unlock the door, and usually I have to touch the fob to the starter button to turn the car on. This is the only time it does this. It's like there's some crazy force field around the school, or it's haunted. I've tried new batteries and both fobs, and it's always the same. This is loco, Holmes.

There is probably some wireless signal at that location which is blocking the fob.

That's the only thing I can think of, but it just started doing this. It's not exactly a high tech place, so I can't imagine they got anything new that would emit or block signals. It is really strange though.

There are many devices that emit radio waves.

COOL FOB FEATURES (and unlock customizations).

I've discovered several interesting things about the wireless key...

-If you leave a fob inside the car... Your door-handle sensor will NOT unlock automatically. This is to prevent passers-by from getting in when you lock a fob inside. It will require that you press the fob button on your second fob. Check that you have not left your other fob inside the car.

2- Cool Trick that no one seems to have discovered about their f200 series fob:
==> On a hot day...before getting in your vehicle...HOLD DOWN the unlock button for about 5 seconds...and keep holding. ALL WINDOWS WILL OPEN...INCLUDING THE SUNROOF! This is to cool it off for ya. Sweet!

3- You can customize exactly what happens when you pull on the driver-side door handle. Look in your manual...for how to tell it to: Unlock ONLY your door...unlock ALL doors...or unlock driver and FRONT PASSENGER door. This made my wife very happy because the driver can more quickly unlock passenger doors.

This has to be set up by the dealer...it's not turned on by default. Mine isn't set up. The last time I was at the dealer, I asked if they could do it, but apparently the only guy that knew how was on lunch break or something. :)

Actually...this function is ON by DEFAULT according to my 2008 Owner's manual.

If you look on pages 520 and 521 (if its the 2008 book), it indicates that the default setting is ON (active) and is only turned OFF via customization.

This default function is also indicated on Page 40 of the owner's manual...

If yours isn't working... maybe try your other fob...or...perhaps a previous owner disabled it? ???

Curious... What do you dislike about it?

Personally, I LOVE not having to dig the key out of my pocket all the time. Means I never misplace my key.
What bugs you about it?

^^^THIS, I love the push button start and not having to dig my keys out, the only pain in the ass is jumping into cars without and then realizing you now have to pull your keys our of your pocket after already sitting down(first world problem I know:)) I think the guys would tell ya they want more of a proven system such as keys, in theory less of a chance of getting stranded I guess.

Of course, the TRD button will never let you down - it's red! ;)

Seems like a RED button should be reserved for an emergency SEAT-EJECT button...
