Keep Blowing Dome Fuse while installing my new stereo

Anyone have any Idea what the "Dome" fuse is connected to?? I know it runs the clock on the dash, but I am wondering what else.. whenever I put a new fuse in it blows it.. if I replace it with a 20A Fuse everything is fine, but as soon as I put the 10 back in :censor: ing thing blows again.. all of my connections seem good?? but I'll check those too....please help if you can.. thanks,
 
too many amps?

I don't know what items run on that circuit, but it sounds to me like you're pulling too many amps (i.e. more than ten) since you wired in your stereo to that circuit.

I do not recommend putting in a 20 amp fuse and calling it good...you can overheat the wire, fry the insulation, and cause fire...leading to the structure of your truck changing its chemical properties (i.e. burning to the ground).

Are you running the head unit and all the speakers (aftermarket?) from that same power source? If so, you need to fix that....run the head unit on that power source (it should only draw 3 or 4 amps) and run the speakers through an amplifier with it's own power.

I don't know...just something to think about.
 
I don't intend on running with the 20A fuse, but I did put it in to try to detect the fuse... thanks for your thoughts I will look in that too..
 
Unfortunately, previous owners seem to leave little surprises for the next owners, especially in electrical stuff. I have found that the Japanese are especially fond of little gadgets and trinkets for their vehicles...bordering on the ridiculous most of the time.

I would definitely look at what other accessories have been installed in your vehicle that may have been tapped onto the same circuit. Most people use that circuit because it's ignition controlled in most vehicles. If there were previous accessories that have been removed, maybe there's broken insulators or bare wires from those previous installations that maybe be shorting out. Heck, there may even be a coin or debris in the cigarette lighter that's causing this...don't laugh, I've seen that before.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way of fixing it...just have to get the elbow grease on with your multimeter and get in there and find what's causing that large draw. And if it were my own vehicle, I'd definitely try and find the problem instead of just ignoring it. Good luck.
