there is probably more to it than just diameter of exhaust. How much is to be gained by eliminating one of the cats? or tossing the mufler in favor of a cherrybomb or better high-flow mufler? removing the resonator? exiting before the rear wheel as apposed to all those bends to get it way back there?

I personally don't mind though, this is awesome info and the Cruiser is going to be in the family for a long time I think.
Even though a lot of time has gone by, not all the issues have been resolved. My Grandpa doesn't drive it very often and I think he is tired of trying to figure out what needs to happen. Yes, we did get the exhaust completed awhile ago, but that is another thing that is now a problem. It seems to get very hot now on the passenger side where the cat is located. (Master Muffler decided to just do 1 large cat instead.) I assume we could just wrap some of that heat shield stuff around or something there, which we haven't tried yet. We have taken the Cruiser back about 4-5 times now because they weren't able to keep it sealed where the Y-pipe meets the manifold. I think it may be good now, however. They also can't hear their classical music over the loud exhaust noise. (Went back several times for that also to change out mufflers.)
Unfortunately overall I think they are still bummed about the whole deal. The lack of power from the charger. The hot, loud, and expensive exhaust system. And of course the gas mileage that we all know about.
Maybe it would have been easier to SAS and lift a 100 instead??

Wow, bummer after 2+ years. My supercharged 80 with 315's would get a second gear scratch on cold mornings. If it were mine, I would sure go back over that install again.

I talked with Bob Garner at TRD Monday...still no news on the Gen 2, but he says they are still trying. He said there is more than enough demand, especially with SA and Middle East markets. But he says the decision is mostly political now.
Someone mentioned that LC Engineering was producing them for the Middle East, selling like hotcakes.
I believe that if you were to call them and try to buy one they will tell you that they are not available.
They might sell you one, then you could sell it to me. I would then put you on my Christmas card list.

They do not have the TRD supercharger from the above link in stock.
They are working with the same Eaton M-90 as the TRD kit, and will offer it as a complete kit. He said that right now they are working on dyno testing and the intake ducting. They are aiming for a price in the vicinity of the TRD price. He said he'd call me when it was available for sale.

I'm sorry. I have never driven a supercharged 80, and the effect may be dramatic enough to warrant the price, but I cannot imagine that the actual supercharger, in terms of materials, r&d, construction, etc., is worth nearly $4000. I understand that it is a limited production, and that it is very close to being a "bolt-on" addition to later models, but that still seems extreme.
Fab something up for mass production, you'll see the background costs build quickly. Worse than that, make a one off and see how much it costs. I've heard of prototype turbo systems that cost $80k to develop ONE. Refine that for production, factor in costs A to Z, and don't forget your profit, which may be miniscule.
I agree, $4k is spendy, but for what the system is, it's not an inflated price.
That's if you are coming completely from scratch. Here, we are talking about developing an eaton-based supercharger for an in-line six engine that is only required to produce a low level of boost so that it will comport with Toyota specs. You may be right, but I am still skeptical.
I believe in the Shaman, but I needed to verify the rumors that another supercharger was in the works in case TRD can't convince TMS HQ to get off of their duffs to approve the resumption of kit production.
I have an itch that needs to be scratched, and only TRD can do it.

When I bought my 95 SC'd LC with 92K miles, it had cooling issues. I had the radiator rodded out (would have swapped it for the brass radiator if I had been on this board at the time), new Thermostat (OEM), and a new fan clutch (OEM). For good measure, I changed the fan to one out of a 4 runner for more air flow in the engine bay, per Cdan's recommendation, he has the info on that. Apparently the ringed fan that comes with the SC kit doesnt do as good of a job of cooling. Theres a post on here somewhere that talks about it.
I'm at 152K now and have had no issues with overheating since. I never drove it without the SC, but it has plenty of get up and go. I have never "wished" for more power, even when towing very heavy loads (I was more concerned with stopping )
If it is really running that badly, sounds like it would be throughing CEL's left and right. Good luck in finding the problem.
