My son and I got back from a road trip late last night with this. I hope to clean it up and set it up with a roof top tent and a few other mods. I've been sitting back and reading the threads and getting a lot of great ideas. It's a 1966, M416 that the forrestry dept got off the military and has not been molested.

Another great trailer project starting. First thing... the landing leg is on backwards. The rest is easy.

on it's back & sprungover

Started working on the trailer this weekend. The first thing I did was get it in the garage and flip it onto it's back. That was fun since I did it by myself with the help of an engine hoist and 2x4 props. I should have taken some pics but was too busy repositioning the hoist about 6 times. After that came turning the landing leg, that seems to be as sinful as having your bezel upside down. Next was disassembling the axle and removing the drum and backing plate to spring it over. The last pic is everything back together. I'd like to thank Brian in Oregon for his thread on his spring over of his M100 it was real helpful.

Looks excellent! Did you get new u-bolts?

Thanks, not yet. I've just got everything held in place by the old ones, it suprised me that the old ones came off as easy as they did. Before it gets put back in use it will have new ones. I also need to work on relocating the shock mount locations.

nice find!

if I still lived in Reston I would swing down to help out;)

Photogod, those part numbers dont look correct to me. I'll check to see what the part numbers where for the bearings I used in my rebuild.

Timkin may have different numbers but those numbers I gave came from the Bower bearings on my M100 when I replaced them. As I mentioned, the numbers may be different for the 416. I just thought I would throw in some info for discussion.

Or here,, some easy info you might want to print out for reference while working on the 416.. graqbbed it off m416 msngroup a while back to use myself..

Wheel Bearings (4 per trailer):
Federal Mogul Set A-35, which consists of:
Bearing: LM501349
Race: LM501310

Grease Seals (2 per trailer):
Federal-Mogul 472018
*note, for some reason these seals are rather expensive.....~$10 each, but
they are much cheaper than M151 seals at 17 each. The F-M seals do not
have the lip that prevents the seal from going too deep in the hub, but driving
it in with a block of wood makes them seat just fine.

IMPORTANT:

The Portrayal Press reprint of the 1970 Edition of TM 9-2320-251-14 has a big error in the sequence of assembly for the hubs on pp24-25.
The correct sequence (from the inside out) is as follows:
1. Grease seal
2. bearing
3. race
4. hub
5. race
6. bearing
7. tabbed washer
8. spindle nut
9. lock washer
10. lock nut

Note: you'll need a 2 1/16 hub bearing locknut socket (for early jeep, Scout,
and Land Rover) to get to the bearings. Price is generally about 10-15 bucks
and is available from JC Whitney or any GOOD jeep parts dealer that
understands that jeeps were made before the CJ-7 introduction in 1976.

Shock Absorbers (2 per trailer):
NAPA 94038
*this is for a mid 1970's CJ-5 with a 4cyl engine

Springs:
1950's vintage CJ3A/CJ3B FRONT leaf springs (36.25x1.75 inch leaf springs)

Spring Eye Bushings:
1950's CJ3A/B Front leaf bushings

Shackles:
1950's vintage CJ3A/CJ3B shackles.
Note there is a right and a left threaded shackle. You'll need one of each.
Available from JC Whitney or any jeep parts specialist. These are commonly
called "c-shackles"

U-bolts:
Again, 1950's CJ3A/B U-bolts for a Dana 25 axle. You want the "skinny" u-bolt
as there is also a wide u-bolt to clear the pumpkin on a D25. With nuts, they
run about 3.60 each from Walcks 4WD - Willys Jeep Parts - 10% Off Thru December - Brakes, Bumpers, Tires, & Wiring Harnesses for CJ2A, MB, & More

Cuzzer beat me to it. Those are the numbers for the bearings that I used in my rebuild.

Photogod, do those numbers cross reference over to the ones that you posted for the M100?

Sorry not to get back to you with any bearing info, been away for a while. I could not answer the question anyway because I took the old bearings cleaned them up, repacked them and neglected to get any info off of them. After reading all the responses to LCOwner's question I'm glad I didn't have an answer, an enormous amount of info has come out from one question. This is a great forum.

Not in my research. Must be different. Great info guys. I've been trying to find my army guide for the M100 but the wifey put it "AWAY" so I will keep looking to see if I can find it and I will post numbers if I can.
