and if that was a true "restoration" I'd almost have to say fair market price. The other one on B-J is what? 90k

Its just so hard to find a good one at a reasonable price(as you know) without being one of the lucky ones

even as an educated shopper seems you can pay

3-5 for a project in a million pieces
6-9k for an original rust bucket
12-15k for a pretty good runner w/ some varying degrees of cosmetic coverup
25-35k for a real quality restoration
or a project around 10k you need to spend another 10k fix up

granted that list is not absolute but the pattern I saw while looking for a looooooooong time

I am hoping I find one down in south America this summer. Of course I am going to have to deal with shipping it back but if the price is right I will deal with it.

just drive it back, tell them your on a beer run if they stop you at the border.

I would but im pretty sure the STATE DEPT. would not like that very much.

Im not really going down there to sight see.

That be one hell of a story around the fire though.

Actually thought real hard about putting mine up forsale. Just not driving it at all anymore.

You will have no problem finding one down there. Really clean ones in Bogota but easier and cheaper as you get out toward to some of the parts of the country.

If you find one I need a few parts from down there. Not to mention I know a guy who can get it home for you no problem.

BS, 35K will get you a quality refurbishing, NOT a restoration.

Which by no means makes me the 45 expert just sharing the trend I saw; then again maybe im just wrestling with my own incorrect thought patterns :D

And I would certainly agree with that......if you the one paying for the restoration, absolutely youll pay more.

I guess I should have been more cautious with my terminoligy....
How bout I saw a few trucks in the 25-35k range that had been previously restored/refurbished/redone/rebuilt/rewhatever by someone with pretty quality standards. Maybe I wouldnt eat off the underside of the fender and maybe it wasnt the OEM purists wet dream, but nice quality work done in the past say ten years.

so I guess that makes mine a steal at 16.5k I guess :hillbilly:

okay, i came across kinda gruff. i apologize for that, seems to be my character.

i have seen some pretty nice rigs for $35K but i have yet to see a true restoration anywhere close to that. it ... irritates ... when that term is used to cover mediorcure refubishings. hell, i have seen $35K "restorations" with gallons of bondo on it, odd ball seats, and ... gag ...a V8 in it.

one of the shops i used in Alberta does true restorations of old muscle cars. they range from $250K to $350K and the detail is right down to the touch of yellow paint on the Canadian muscle from the american versions. every spot weld is in the original location, this kind of detail is very time consuming and the bill goes up.

a true restoration (if you paid someone else to do it) would be in the low 6 figures and the time needed to find original no-longer-in-production factory parts would be extremely time consuming.

cheers

Agree with you on the term restored or freshly restored or frame off blah blah blah. I'm in the middle of one and I can tell you, to do it right takes more time and money than I have. It is a lot of work. That said as long as the seller is honest and represents the vehicle right than the words are just advertising. I guess when my FJ40 goes up for sale in a few months I shouldn't have a problem getting rid of my FULL FRAME OFF RESTO at the price I will be asking.

Barrett Jackson isn't what it used to be back in the day. But they do have some nice stuff come accross the table.

sure, it is a chevy bastard child that soaked some sucker for $85K ...
