It has low miles (115K), well maintained. But, it's due for new rubber. I'm considering moving up 1 size to 265/70 R17 in an AT. What experience have y'all had with this size AT on a GX. I had this size AT on my FJ and it worked well, but the GX is different from my FJ obviously and I don't want to commit a Fubar right out the box. Your experience on brands are welcome as well. My past experience with AT's is limited to BF Goodrich and Cooper.

Clean looking GX!

I have a few sets of the BFG ko2 I've used with good result. I had the Goodyear duratrac and it got loud quickly and wore quickly too.
A lot of guys on here rave about the Nitto grapplers, but I haven't tried a set. They're heavy compared to the Ko2, even in load range C, and unsprung weight equals less of power and decreased fuel economy.
For those reasons, I stayed with the Ko2 - and because it's an AWESOME all around tire that's like velcro in the snow.

Clean find, welcome! If you go up a size make sure you also purchase a spare in said size and ensure it, too, will fit where it's stored.

I'm running LT 265 70 17 BFG KO2's on stock GX rims and stock height with no issues.

There are a few good threads on tire/lift/ wheel combinations.
FYI, I got a LT 265 70 17 in the spare tire rack underneath the GX. Tight fit but works.

When I think of what tire fits the GX470, I think in terms of inches instead of the confusing tire size numbers. So, I use a tire calculator to help me see the differences in tire sizes.

The stock tire on the GX470 is 265/65R17 which translates to approximately 30.6" tall by 10.4" wide tire. The stock oem rims and the wheel wells seem to take a maximum 32.2" tall tire by about 10.5" wide. If you go to these limits, you might need to trim some of the wheel fender liners.

Also, the stock oem spare location takes about a 32.2" diameter tire as the max. You might need to let a little air to fit this big, but I have a 32.1" tire fully inflated and it fits fine.

Now in terms of tires, most everyone on here like the tall fat tires. I have them too, but I've always wanted to run skinny tall tires. Unfortunately, I cannot since I've donated my stock oem wheels to make room in the garage.

Skinny tall tires:
1. 255/75R17 = 32.1" by 10" depending on tire brand. It should fit fine with no modifications and no rubbing. It fits on the stock oem wheels. It fits in the stock spare location fully inflated.

2. 255/80R17 = 33.1" by 10" depending on tire brand. You might need to do a little trimming of the wheel liner in the front wheel wells. Might need to deflate the spare to fit it in the spare location. I've always wanted to run these tires on stock oem wheels.

Fat tall tires:
1. 285/70R17 = 32.7" by 11.5" depending on brand. You will need new wheels with a -10 or -12 offset, you will need to trim the liners, you will need to deflate the spare to fit it on the spare location, you will need to remove the running boards.

2. 275/70R17 = 32.2" by 10.8". As people have said, you might rub with the stock oem wheels that have a +25 offset. FJC wheels have like +15 offset, so makes room for the wider tire.

You can get 285s in with less aggressive offset. @Scat Adams has them on his 17x7 +4 offset TRD wheels. You’re probably more likely to need a body mount chop with 285s once you get past -10

Scat's is one of my favorite GX470s, but 17x7 seems to be outside of the recommended rim width for a 11.5" wide tire. Most places recommend 7.5" to 9" rim for a 285/70R17 and most web sites list their tire specs on a 8.5" wide rim.

Probably only have a problem if you air down too low.

265x70 17 KO2, LRE, stock rims. spare BARELY fits with KDSS RSB, but it fits...

Thanks to all who replied. Ordered a set of 265/70R/17 Cooper AT3 4S, and they'll be here on Monday.
