I know this topic has been discussed all over the forums here. Not trying to start another tire war/thread but.. After many months of trying to decide what to buy I finally decided to purchase 4 Nitto TerraGrapplers. Have had them on a 500 mile round trip to ATL and they handled great. Also have had them off road on trails with mud and they have been awesome. I read a lot about people having troubles in mud but I haven't seen any of that. I'm not a serious roader but am in muddy situations weekly on our farm.

Should have gone with the 285. Learned my lesson. Next set will be bigger.

I went with the TG 285s. I love them. Have had them for 2 weeks. Already put on over a thousand miles on them. Only complaints on my end was the lack of stability going from paved to road work dips on the fwy.

I think any offroad tire of any size looks good on a 100. Don't sweat it. Sometimes stock size is best if you play in the city alot.

TG's (IMHO) are a great all around tire. Play with the prssure a bit to get the desired ride.

good to hear. I just bought a set of these too and will have them installed early next week. I went with the 275/65/18's/ . Hope they fill out well with a 2.5'' lift.

They are also really nice in the winter. didn't slip at all in the snow this year.

Just got myself an '06 LX470 and I'm ready for tires.

I thought the stock size was 275/60/18s, but I have 265/60/18s mounted.

What are my practical choices for NTG's in regular load rating for a mild lift?

275/65/18's and 285/65 18's?

I read recently that the Toyo Open Country AT is the same tire as the NTG and there was a premature wear issue. Is there a durability issue with the NTG? I'm due for some new shoes because I don't like the look of the Michelin A/S that came with my Tundra 18's and I want to get an AT tire with good all-around performance, including wet and snow driving. But with a heavy vehicle like the hundy, I don't want to re-shoe after 30k mi. I have had great experience with a couple of sets of Firestone Destination AT's which lasted forever on the lighter-weight 3rd gen 4Runner.

Ordered the TG 275's earlier this week and they are sitting at the shop waiting for my lift install next week. This thread has me wanting to call the shop to see if i can return the 275s and reorder the 285s......:meh:

I'm with ya Griffin... I'd LOVE to see a couple shots of the 285/70/18s on a stock(ish) 100. I'm only planning on the TBL (torsion bar lift) to level it up a bit. I'm usually so conservative with tires - start too small and wish I went bigger. Am (was?) thinking 275s... but...

285's...

275's will look small on a lifted 100.

A quick search and I don't believe the TGs come in 285/70/18s, only in the 17'' wheel...bleh...I'll go with the 65 sidewall.

just called Kauffman, they will look into returning the 275s for the 285s and call me back....

Why not 275/70R18? Wouldn't it (with larger diameter and slightly more narrow footprint than 285/65R18) provide better overall functionality?

Other than looks, I don't understand what you get with the 285 in these two size options...

Pure vanity here. All i have to determine the look I'm after are photos I can find here on MUD. I guess one can argue off road functionality based on a tires surface area on the ground, skinny or fat, but I'm wanting a "full" look to match a 2.5'' lift. What I don't want is a tall skinny appearance.

I dunno, but I'm the first to admit that I'm indecisive as hell when it comes to stuff like this....I've literally changed my mind a dozen times on the size of a lift, wheels, and tires.

If you want a tire that fills the wells and will look great before and after the lift, look at the 305/60/18 TGs
