Congratulations!

Advice?
Invest in high quality tools. 10, 12, and 14mm are common. You'll need various styles of sockets for each, and wrenches as well.

Toyota Factory Service Manual(s) are a "must have."

Congratulations as well on your higher education matriculation. Your new vehicle will be a reliable teacher as well.
Happy trails

Great looking rig. What is the maintenance history of the rig, If unknown I would definitely baseline the thing first. The cooling/heating system would be priority especially living/school in Utah.

Spare parts stockpile is always good too.

If you have 33" or larger tires, get 4.88 gears. Makes it drive so much better.

Sweet rig. Remember buy the steak, not the sizzle. Save and spend your money first on making sure it’s 100% mechanically sound. SoCal to Utah is a bad time to find out your PHH is old and brittle.

Looks for bumpers, racks and sliders in the classifieds before you start spending money on the sizzle. Most of us are on versions 2.0 or more with our rigs and have parts purchased and alreadytaken off that we’d part with at some point.

Check in here often. There are a few keyboard commmados who’ll say s*** if you ask a question about a topic discussed many times in the past, but there are truly some great and wise people who will help diagnose and point you in the right direction.

Have fun.

Thanks for the advice! I (at least currently) am perfectly content with the cosmetics and sizzle of the rig at the moment and am very maintenance oriented. We have a mechanic we trust who is going to do a once over on it today to get anything I may have missed.

I will for sure be frequenting the forum and try to go as many meets as possible!

Thanks!

Don't scare the kid. His 92 will have the 3FE motor so no PHH. Good thing to change all rubber hoses unless you have repair history showing them done in the last few years.
The previous owner was a home mechanic who would work on old show trucks. Him and his dad did a lot of baseline maintenance but before that It was in a storage unit for about 6 months not driving.

Here's my old 91. I really liked it and wish I would have kept it. Keep up on the maintenance and it will give you years of service. Try to link up with a club. You'll learn a ton just being around other members. There are good shops in both Utah and California should you need them.
