Hello everyone in 100 land, I just got a high Mileage 2000 LX 470 to replace my really high mileage 94 80 series. I needed something a little more commuter traffic friendly than my badly beat up 80 that my brother and I have been trashing since 1998. I relly like the 100 I know I need a starter, and probably accumulators. I don't know the service history yet, but I don't think it has been serviced much less driven in a couple of months. Is there any cheap way to put brakes on these.

You should have kept it. You'll miss it.

The 100 is really nice for commuting. Easiest approach on brakes is the oem - they work very well. Sometimes Toyota dealers have sales on brake jobs and it can be reasonable. Not hard to do on your own though. Since your LX is past warranty, I doubt Toyota will refuse to work on it. Where I am, the Toyota dealer does lots of work on Lexus vehicles - warranty or not.

Sounds like you got your value out of the 80. Probably still miss it though.

Mileage

2000 LX 470 223,401 as of today

1994 FJ 80 276,157 as of today

We like to drive our trucks alot.
I think i'll go ahead and do the starter timing belt and water pump while I still have my other truck, or use that money to pay for would be a better option.

BTW my LC is the one for sale in AL in the Buy/Sell forum for 2,000

Toyota WILL work on an LX. I just had them do my 60k service. Lexus wanted $760 - Toyota $510. I didn't have time to do it myself - wife doesn't know about the savings... project fund!

$760 is dirt cheap for a '01 60K service. Do you know what they did for that price? Did they literally do it by the book (i.e., no diff/t-case/ATF change, just inspect those, then change engine oil/filter, air filter, cabin filters, rotate tires, change coolant, repack front bearings)? Did toyota do the AHC fluid? Most toyota techs have never worked on a vehicle w/ AHC.

Welcome to the premium Land Cruiser model forum :flipoff2:

As far as brakes go, the FIRST thing you need to do is remove one brake pad on each side and then re-assemble.... You will now feel more at home by driving a Cruiser with horribly under-engineered and dangerous brakes like you did in with the 80  ( sorry, inside joke)

Enjoy ..Hopefully we can make your 100 owner experience even better !

Peace

Per Lexus - 60k doesn't do the bearing repack.
My Lexus 'consultant' sent me the list - which Toyota did.
The Toyo dealer has a separate SUV center and the tech had already been trained on AHC for the newer LC.
