Just flew out to OH to pick up my LX, Undercarriage has a little more rust than advertised

Honest... places I would look that I am familiar with no salt no rust... #1 Nashville lots of $$ and mostly driven by moms,
Fayettville AR, again $$ town, Atlanta GA about the cheapest place you can fly into and $$, Birmingham AL my wifes LX came from there by way of Chattanooga, Dallas is also good... I know the out west trucks are as nice... but most of the places I listed have a large population of people who can afford these new...

my current low buck 305k mile texas LC has zero rust and I have yet to break a bolt or need more than a squirt of penetrating oil to remove any bolt... just did the torsion bars and every bolt was rust free... I hate rust... I'd rather take a greyhound bus for 8 hrs if I had to than deal with rust for years to come... (never been on a greyhound and hear the trip sucks but... rust sucks more)

I am on the east coast and we use salt in Wash DC, but my truck doesn't look anywhere close to that bad. This rust may not make the truck more unreliable, but it will certainly make your maintenance efforts much more frustrating. I vote with "pass" on this one.

Here's a '02 LX470 with 203k and no integrated nav. Looks clean other than the broken taillight and scuff mark. No clue how the undercarriage looks but it's an AR truck so it can't be that bad.

I need some help guys. The LX is currently getting a PPI done by Toyota. Maintenance history is very good but the pictures of the undercarriage I got didn't show how much rust there is. Interior and body are clean with no rust that I can see but I'm worried about the undercarriage and frame. What do you guys think? Is this the one? Or do I fly back to NJ

check out this one in knoxville tn... http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/5118068185.html

When I requested pictures of the undercarrige I got a quick snap of it that showed SOME rust but it looked to be in decent condition.

I've been burned like this with a previous vehicle. You realize you have to be 100% satisfied with ALL of your requests (photos, videos, questions, etc.) before doing any sort of long distance negotiation. It only take once and then you learn.

Glad to hear your ran. Good luck in your search, great ones are out there.

Was that in Cleveland? I think I looked at the same rig about 4 months ago. If not the same one it was very similar in regards to horrible undercarriage. You made a good choice walking away from it.

I did end up buying on in Ohio and it does have rust but only a fraction of what you ran into. I wouldn't say all Ohio rigs are bad but there is a pretty good chance an Ohio truck is going to be very very rusty. Just the way of life here in the salt belt.

Here's my ideal truck that I can't seem to find to save my life.

LX470 (LC works but not as preferable)
2004+
Less than or just over 100k miles
<$30k
No Accidents
No white or Beige exterior
Prefer Tan interior (but grey can work)
Excellent Maintenance History
No Rust

My last five requirements are where I start to run into trouble. Whenever I find a car it seems to be missing at least one of those req's.

I'm contemplating putting up some reward money for anyone that send's me a truck that fits all of my requirements...After getting burned so hard yesterday shopping isn't nearly as fun

I'd leave too. I got mine from Michigan it doesn't even look half as bad as that.

There are a few here in the Seattle area on Craig's list. There is one gentleman who has an 05 and 07 white LX up for sale to see which goes first. I talked to him about them before I found my 06 LC. There is another place called Auto Connections that has quite a few LX's and LC's they have a pretty high opinion of them selves but they also bring in trucks from all over the country with one owner and good service record documentation. I looked at a number of trucks here And all were zero rust except one that came from the NE. Also when I looked into shipping one from Denver it was about a grand give or take. Plus TorFab is right up in Mukelteo so if you wanted to have it checked out or work done before you drive/ship home you have a reputable shop in the area. Keep in mind that the 06-07 TB/90k service is more expensive than the 04-05 trucks due to the VVTi motor. Good luck!

Whoops I miss read NO white. Right. I didn't want white or tan interior either. Look what I ended up with. Ha ha ha. Love it.

Thanks cap80, I had no clue about the more expensive TB service for the VVTi motors. Autoconnecitons looks like the get some nice LX's I'll keep an eye on them and the rest of Seattle. The CL up their had 20x more TLC and LX's than my area lol

The TB water pump service shouldn't be any more expensive than a non-Vvti unless you are replacing cam seals. Unless I'm missing something.

I like that white, I'd trade my black one straight up!

Yes cam seals. A couple extra hours labor and parts from what the invoice from Tor states.

Ha ha, as much as I wanted a black or silver, I'm not trading it for anything. It has some extra specialness you can't get state side.

@JZelnik the silver one at Autoconnection is the North East truck I referred to. Beautiful until you look underneath. Then it looks worse than the one you posted. Such a shame.

Fly to TX....... my truck is cleaner then my dad's one year old Raptor in Maine.....

lot's of options and airports...... plus a great excuse for a roadtrip !
