Hi Everyone, new to forum, 1st post:) Just wanted to get some feedback on the purchase I just made. I am sure I will be asking lots of questions down the line. I apologize in advance...

Just brought home an 92FJ80 I got off eBay. This is my second cruiser. My last was an '83 I had years ago. Ever since letting that one go I knew I needed another one.

Here is the run down.
142,xxx miles
Body and interior look great
A\C doesn't work (not sure why yet)
Radio cuts in and out
Ran and drove good on the 70 mile trip home up I-77
Tight steering
4x4 and center lock seem ok

Here are the things the guy said had been replaced recently.
New battery
New master cylinder
New front brake lines
New high pressure power steering
Replaced blower high speed relay

As I won the bid on eBay I showed up to get the truck with a certified check. After a bit of inspection I peeked underneath and noticed a fair amount of rust, frame, rear end, basically everywhere. The truck spent most of it's early life in NY, now in NC.

Since I was in the parking lot at Cracker Barrel I couldn't do a great inspection but decided to talk it over with the owner and we settled on $3500, he gave me cash for the difference and I was on my way.

I will get some pictures of the underbody when I can get it to the pit.

I guess I am asking for worse case scenario options here and how to proceed if that is indeed the case.

All feedback appreciated.

Chris

Looks nice...congrats! I like the updated 16" wheels he put on there. LOoks like you have some electrical and A/C work ahead of you but for $3500.00 you have some cash left over to get her up to speed.

Looks like your boy approves

At first glance, looks like you did well.

Welcome. ;)

i like the upgraded wheels too.

Congrats. Sounds like you got a little work ahead, but nice start :).

Welcome to the addiction :flipoff2:

At that price you are way ahead of the game. Congratulation and welcome to the addiction. What addiction? Give it a month or 10!

Sounds good to me. Congrats!

Nice. '92's are the shiz. :). I've got 205,000+ on mine and am not worried in the least about driving it back home to Kansas from New York in three months. (Except the gas mileage part...) They are awesome vehicles.

I like the white paint and the rims too.

Hope the underside rust is not serious....it is just a pain.
Get lots of PB blaster or areokroil......

Looks good. Ours has 275,000 so far...If the a.c. has been converted over to 134a put a can in from Wal-mart and see if tthe compressor kicks on. MIke

Thanks for all the replies so far. It is true that my son loves the LC. He is convinced that we are going to convert it into a 'monster' truck. I hope to get to the shop where I work today and get some pictures of the underbody.

I didn't see a sticker showing the a/c had been converted. I know the fittings will be different. What else to look for to see if the conversion has been done?

Chris

The fittings tell the tale. Let us know, you have an arsenal of a/c techs at your disposal right here.

Congrats!!

Welcome aboard!! I'd say you got a good deal, especially if you can
wrench on her yourself. Start a cruiser mods savings account now,
you'll be glad you did!! Steve

Congratulations. Looks good. Advice: take it to an a/c shop for servicing. I ruined my wife's CRV a/c by trying to do it myself. Yours probably never been serviced. Welcome. Ned

Looks mighty nice.
Give us a shout over at the NC club if you ever want to do some wheeling or need help wrenching.

Looks nice. Youve got some other MUD lurking neighbors in Mt. Airy as well and as LT1fire suggested, chime in and say hello on the ONSC page.

Cloth seats in a white cruiser, youve done good !!!
