I've been having a rattle at startup when my truck is cold. Lasts about 1-2 seconds. I think it has something to do with oil pressure and the timing chain, so does my mechanic. So...
Many hours of searching for threads"by cary containing the word oil" later I have made some adjustments. So I bought some Mobil 1 10w30(I've always used 10w30). More searching of cary's threads led me to believe I should try a heavier wt like 0w40. Seeing as how I've already got 6qts of 10w30 I picked up 2qts of 15w50 M1 to go with it. Lets see if that helps the rattle at startup. I will update in a few days if I have good news. My next oil change will be with 0w40 and back to the Toyota filter to see what affect that has.

Next, I pulled the tranny drain plug and out came 6qts of still quite red fluid. I don't know when or if it was ever changed by PO(120k, 6k are mine) I replaced that with 6qts of M1 ATF, and maybe it's just me but Toto seems to shift a little smoother than b4. CDan is out drowning worms so I will order the pan sealant later and next time I change fluid I will clean the screen.

Anyway, just an FYI. I will post back if I get good news with the oil. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

There is an aftermarket tranny pan gasket that some Toyota dealers sell/use.
I bought one and had a tranny shop install it and flush my system.
I just did the 6qt swap with M1 ATF. I will be dropping the tranny pan soon. We will see how hard it is to get off.

Note:
On your last 6qt drain and fill, replace the oil drain plug gasket.
