Bill went up a day early on June 30 and met up with Martin and others at the first Challet on Friday, July 1st. The weather was good to that point. The Greystokes main road was pretty easy right up to the first challet. Some clearcut logging has been going on over the last couple of years, which changes the appearance somewhat. We took the Linden Lake road on to the Hilton challet and the road proved slightly more difficult with mud holes and rock hills. A couple of vehicles got stuck in a big mud bog, notably Phil's BJ60 and trailer, which was pretty funny with them sinking up to the back wheels and one kid asleep through it all, and the other getting a bit nervous. Derek to the rescue towing with no damage done. Ruth Anderson bravely plowed through the mud bog with her modified Grand Cherokee; she's fearless. Some of the rock boulders on the rock hills are tough going for stock vehicles, but we all made it up to the Hilton. Steve came up in the middle of the night in the dark; a dauntless task on that boulder road.
We camped at the Hilton which needs a trash cleanout pretty bad. Lots of good firewood available there. There's garbage shrewn inside and out. On Saturday morning some vehicles ventured up Mt. Moore through more difficult mudholes. It was hailing and raining pretty bad that day, and the going was slippery. That day Bill, as well as Sue and Shane, headed back down the road, hoping to get home Saturday night. Alas, it was not to be for Bill, he snagged a rock with a front tire and it later went flat on the Okanagan Connector just out of West Bank. He limped on to Merritt with a bad spare and flashers blinking, but fortuanely made it home Sunday without having to buy a new tire yet. If this blurb goes on to IH8mud, I'll include some pictures.
