Just picked up an '83 60 last night. I popped the hood and found the engine has already been desmogged. I also noticed that the carb was shiney, like it had been worked on.
I was hoping that this rig already had Jim's magic touch done to it.

Does Jim mark the carb he rebuilds with some type of mark? Just wondering, if so then great I don't need to send it to him.

Jimmy

I have not heard of him marking them. You should check and see if the distributor was recurved since it is desmogged too if you send him the carb.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking also.

I've got the '87's dizzy and carb to send if needed.

Did you buy it from a mudder? If so that would be a good starting point;)

Mine was the same way when I bought it as well. How do you tell if the dizzy has been recurved?
Sorry to hijack your thread.
Thanks,
Kelly

No, there is no specific marking. But if you post some pics of it, I can tell you if I built it.

Or if you bring it by next time you're eastbound on I-70, I can look at it then.

Hey Jim, I sent my dizzy a while ago. I am aware you're very busy, I'd just like to check that it hasn't been lost. You didn't send it already did you? I sent it to you on Aug. 8

is this a good enough pic. if not let me know and i'll retake with a better angle.

Yep, good enough picture to see that some tard installed the 1969 secondary gasket under the secondary diaphragm. Not my work.

Also, those 2 short hoses to the air cleaner should be capped off below 4000'. They are the air bleeds for the HAC system. A loop of hose can be used to close the 2 fittings on the air cleaner, but the carb fittings need capped individually to prevent bleedover from primary to secondary.

Edit: Oh, it's been "desmogged". That explains the missing AC idle up, hoses routed wrong, missing manifold vac fitting, capped off air injectors...

If you're Trail Teaming across Ohio, stop by and we'll get it straightened out as best possible.

Thanks for the info Jim. The tour is over and I'm back in Indy.:frown:

I'm thinking of sending my '87 dizzy and carb to you to replace to clusterf*&- that's on the '83. Or if I happen to drive by your place I'll hand deliver it.

Thanks again for the info. I'll make the adjustments the best I can.

Jimmy

Hmmmmm. Hey Jimmy. Fellow HC member Tony here. Maybe we can get a group discount if we both take our 83s' over together & get them done right.
