FYI, I just saw those steel Blitz cans at an OSH of all places...go figure. I have the steel carrying cradles, but no cans. The cradles are at OSH, too.

You could make something like this on your back bumper or even rear gate.

ok I'm getting my new Jerry Can today and I was wondering what Kind of bolts I should use to attach it to the rear Bumper. I will have to remove my license plate holder but thats ok. Would anyone recommend rubber spacers to prevent rust around the holes? BTW it the old school mounting tray. All metal by Blitz. TIA

can i just weld a piece of metal on top of my bumperette and bolt it on there?

I would say no, especially with a metal can and gas, you need to make sure it is strong and won't come off driving down the road, if that thing breaks you are putting yourself and the people behind you in danger.

this is what I have I would put two bolts into the frame and two bolts into the bumperette itself. I would move my license plate and mount on top of the red piece of steel it is the metal style jerry can carrier. Let me know what you think. TIA

OK, i see, well I still think it would be cleaner to find another way to mount it using a rack system, but if you want to mount it there, I would reccomend completely pulling that bumperette and fabbing up a mounting plat that bolts to the rear frame channel using the bumperette mounting holes, I would gusset it from below with some triangles, so you are sure it can take the weight of the can bouncing up and down. good luck.

I would be concerned that in a rear-end impact that would be a problem.
Higher would be better - just out of the 1st contact zone

that would be better - at least out of the way from where a bumper would hit you

also seem to remember a pic here on mud where an "extension" was fitted to the swing out tire carrier and the can held on the driver's side at the same height as the tire

IIRC the extension came out from behind the tire
