Are Jeep trailer springs the same as their corresponding vintage Jeeps?

In other words, are the M100 trailer springs the same as the M38/M38A1/CJ5 springs?

I thought they matched CJ3B front springs? :hhmm:

1952 ORD 9 SNL G-747 (M100)
1972 TM 9-2330-201-14 (M100)
1970 TM 9-2330-251-14 (M416)
ORD 7328358, FSN 2510-732-8358 Spring, Assembly, Leaf (10 leaf)

However, the later M416 manual conflicts with the above:
1990 TM 9-2330-251-14&P (M416)
FSN 2510-01-058-7420 Spring, Assembly, Leaf

The 10 leaf spring sets fit these civilian jeeps:
45-49 CJ2A Spring assembly front 10 leaf 926709 $105.00
49-53 CJ3A Spring assembly front 10 leaf 926709 $105.00
53-64 CJ3B Spring assembly front 10 leaf 926709 $105.00

Other sites cross reference the above part number, 926709, to the M38 as well.

They also show the M38A1 as being a different part number, which would indicate that the CJ5 early is too. The CJ5 mid and late production definitely are different.

So it would appear that 926709 is probably the correct part number for an M100 trailer, and possibly for an M416, or at least some of the M416s. I came across a thread on another website wherein an M416 owner said he bought CJ2A springs and they fit fine on his M416.

Correct on the 416. Womack found that there are two different size springs for late and early 416's. The later models have the longer springs. Typically if you have surge brakes you have the longer spring. Measure to be sure.

Any idea on the earlier MBT/T3 trailers? My Aug. 65 M416's springs are pretty stout. I press down on the back and they don't flex much. My Sept. 43 MBT springs seem pretty soft. I puxh down on the backk and they flex quite a bit. Didn't see any broken springs but from the waves in the bed it hauled some heavy loads before. Re-arch or replace?

Curious if anyone has ordered replacement springs based on the above info. I'm going to need to get a pair of springs, unless I can find some leftovers from someone's independent spring arm conversion.

This is interesting... Rancho RS44020 is the front replacement spring for the CJ3. However, this version has a 2.5" lift. Might be an idea for extra clearance for those not wanting to do a springover. Cost from Summit is $87.99 each, vs $125.70 each from Schucks/O'Reilly. I was planning to do a springover, so I'm not sure if I want to go this route. Might work with longer shackles instead of a springover.

And this company has the 10 leaf OEM style front spring for $89.95.

I had my main leafs re-made, cost about half of what mail order replacements, and my spring guy evaluated the rest of the spring pack and felt they had years of life left in them. This was on my 67 M416

Well, the problem with that is my last M100 acquisition is lacking one of the springs.

Going to be ordering springs in the next month or two. Anyone have any updates to this thread?
