It is weird, them calling it "Land Cruiser 70" kind of like what they did with the FJ Cruiser.

Regardless, even if it is modeled on the Prado light-duty version (from appearances), I'd rock one with the 4.0L v6 for USD $35k equivalent.

Yup, seeing 25 years into the future. Like how the "newest" thing is the 1HZ's are coming, and the new KZ's are right around the corner.

It is not new. The 7x series has been in production since 1984.

They are merely releasing a marketing version for the JDM.
Thanks for the correction cause the article said it stopped production in 2004 for the 70. Obviously the author has no clue. Thanks again for clearing it up.

To quote the article for those who misunderstood...

The 70 model first went on sale in 1984, and it's still sold in the Middle East, Africa, Australia and other places, averaging 6,400 vehicles a month in sales.

But Japanese fans have long wanted the model back since it was discontinued here in 2004.

click trolling at its very best! even jalopnik wrote for this and a
spy shot of a Jeep J8 today...all in the name of getting you to click

As above, just bringing it back to the Japanese market, still available elsewhere, here in Oz, I could walk out of my office and buy the v8 turbo diesel version and be driving it this afternoon.

no need to be so cruel .. no V8 for us but the worst is we would't have ..

As if I didn't feel bad enough already. At least we have the Cadillac Escalade. :)
