You ask for a 40 and I deliver! I'm 2 for 2 so far. Anyone else?

If that things already got an H55F and split case swapped in, I'm 10 times more jealous!!

I didn't even go through the gears when we cranked it. I just assumed it was a 4 sp. I don't think it is a H55F because he said he didn't want to drive it much over 55 because of the RPM's. It's been sitting for a year or so and needs new gas. We did get it to idle though. Purrrrs! Just needs some tlc.

Did Toyota make a split case with a t-case brake on it, or is that some custom type setup? Why else would it have a split case if it isn't an h55?

I honestly don't know. this thing has some odd stuff on it.

Yeah, Toyota did put a t-case brake on the split case in the early 80s on rigs that had a full floater. I don't think the 40 series full floater ever got an integral parking brake. Mudrak and Spector sell the factory parking brake kits for guys who swap in the five speed but it's pricey.

Got a 77 behind our shop that might work for ya. I'll look into it.

Wife says she might like a 40, said a 60 last week. I am really torn between a 40 or a 60. I realize they are very different. I am just trying to figure out which would be more fun to leave as our second vehicle at hot springs. I think a 40 would be more fun in the summer with the hard top off. I prefer the 40 due to looks. I have no idea how much those things cost. I have seen prices between 4000 and 30000. Any ideas?

As a owner of a 40 and a 80, I would pick the 80 any day over the 40. You may not be as cool looking but like the Duke of Canton said the 80 is the best wheeler out of the box.

I bought my 76 40 for $8250 4 years ago. It was lifted, arb lockers and had the Orion. Good deal for a built truck, so I was told. But I have 3x that in it now. I have had several issues come up and I have thrown some stupid money at it as well. But I love it.

I bought the 94 80 in Dec of 97 and in the last year or so have started sinking money in it. Winch, heavy duty shocks and springs, rear bumper, tunes, rear storage boxes etc..
But to me it is just as bad looking as a the 40 and Debbie has made wheeling it look easy.

If I were getting into the game, I would buy Clutchee's 80 and not look back. Then later on, I would find a keeper 40, like Jrob is 60 days from, to keep mostly stock for the spring and summer.

Just my to cents, or maybe a nickle.:)
