It's that time of year again (looking at a hundy)

About once a year I get the hundy bug, and it's that time again. Looking for some opinions about possibly selling my 80 and getting a mildly built 100. I'm more into family trips these days so the 100 would be better suited towards this, but still want something super capable. Ideal would be 2003+ with <150k miles, lift, bumpers, sliders and lockers.

I would love to have something like this, but he's about 5k too high IMO.

Had a minor rear-ender so will be collecting some insurance money and this would definitely help offset price differences. What is the 80 market these days? What would mine sell for?

Someone talk me out of this madness.

First. I think your 80 is badass!!! I dig it.
Secondly. I saw a 100 yesterday in Laguna Beach. All it had was a mild lift with some BFGoodies and it also looked badass. The 100 on that link you posted looks awesome.

Have you driven a Hundy before???? Have you driven a mildly built Hundy??? I would start there.

As far as the market value for your 80?????
Well you know..................$8k-$60k :)

I just picked up a stock 06 and it's friggin amazing. Good luck with your search.

Never driven a hundy, let alone a built one. Maybe I should ride shotgun in one offroad sometime and maybe drive it a bit. Good suggestion.

I did a little mountain driving today and the truck drives great. I really don't have any complaints but figured the hundy would be better for longer trips.

I'll most likely just keep it, get a roof rack, convert back to FT, and maybe get some low range TC while I'm at it. Being realistic, I don't have the cash to pull the trigger on a hundy right now and no way I'm going to finance it.

Ya man. Everything I have read or heard about the Hundy doesn't compare to our 80s. I know it's far easier to work on 80s than Hundys. My cousin works at Toyota. He keeps telling me how expensive it is to own a Hundy. More expensive than our 80s.

Then again. 4.7 V8 and no overheating head gasket issues?????

Yea, been getting the same bug man. Really love my 80, but thinking of consolidating. I've been considering getting rid of my wife's Denali and my 80 and getting an LX470 or LC 100 series and leting her use that as her daily driver....and my weekend wheeler. I'd really just like to have the V8 of the 100 series for towing.

Good luck with the 100 series hunt!

Okay. Okay. Okay. Not really a Hundy, but........ I've been watching too much YouTube. And 2015 vehicles are here. Saw this at my local Costco. Looks rad. Not sure if it's $40+K rad. 2015 4Runner TRD Pro???

Well...Paul May at Equipt has built up one sweet 4runner after owning 80's and 100's. He's very happy with it. Yes - much more than a nice used 100 tho!

TRD Pro goes into production this Aug, that looks like a trail with a lift.

Took my hundy out to TDS and it did way better than I expected. The ATRAC actually works pretty well. I'd still like to have at least a rear locker but it's way better than an open diff.

That looks clean! We may be purchasing a 100 soon. Wifey sees this everyday she drops the kiddos off at school. She claims she wants.

Well I put up a feeler ad to trade my truck for a 100 series.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fe...llectors-edition-trade-for-100-series.802636/

Problem is I don't have much experience as to how the 100s do on and off road, and what to expect coming from an 80. I rode in a stock LX470 years ago but don't remember much.

Is there anyone in or close to San Diego area that is planning a trail run soon? I would like to tag along. Ideally some highway time and off road time. Possibly Anza Borrego or Big Bear? Unfortunately my schedule will only allow a Saturday day trip right now. I can pitch in some for gas $ or lunch.

Wish you would have hit us up last week. We just did burns canyon.

I know you said you don't want AHC but I put it in comfort mode and aired the tires down to 20 lbs and it was like rising my couch down the road. On the twisties on the way up to big bear I had it in sport mode and it eliminated all the wallowing around the corners.

Just something to consider.

That seems a bit high for the miles.

What would be a good price for something like this? I emailed him and doubt he would move on the price much. I have to consider timing belt service due and transport costs as well.

When I was looking I was seeing them going for just under $10k for that year/mileage.

This truck looks interesting. My main concern would be salt on the road. They use magnesium chloride in Colorado, but not sure about this specific area (Colorado Springs?). Apparently not as nasty as sodium chloride, but still causes issues. Anyone with experience with vehicles from Colorado or areas that use mag chloride?
