Sounds like a cool gig.
Just don't live in corporate housing/apartment. Been there and it sucks. If you are there two weeks a month, get a nice place in a nice area.
Golf and wheeling in AZ, not bad...

Nice Brent! Keeping the networking going is always key in these situations. Maybe they'll hire you as the new CFO. :)

I will be in the same boat soon as my company is being acquired. They have been working me like a rented mule on the deal related financial requirements. :deadhorse:

For now it's a hotel. We'll see going forward. If it becomes permanent, I'd consider looking at a studio apt or perhaps buying a condo as investment property. Going to drive the Prius over this time and just get a lay of the land so to speak. Golf clubs will be in the back. Their office is right across the street from TPC Scottsdale where the Phoenix Open is played! Perhaps on future stints over there I'll drive the truck with enough gear for an overnighter sleeping in the truck kind of outing. I haven't hit up any of the AZ clubs yet. That's to come hopefully.

Hang in there Dan. I fee for you too!!!

.......... if it all works out it may be a permanent position. If so, the :princess:and home would remain here and I'd find a cheap place to live there and just come home occasionally. Golf mecca! We'll see how it works out!!!

Find a cheap place to live??? Sounds like an opportunity to really utilize that badass Landcruiser, trailer, and tent. Just set it up right there in their parking lot (you might want to add a helton or zodi shower kit - lol); show them what a real employee does when they're dedicated.....! They'll see BrentRabmo in their parking lot and you'll secure your job for as long as you want.......MUHAHAHA!!!

and on a more serious note - I'm not surprised, my friend. Good man....GoodKarma ! Congrats on what looks like a good outcome.

Very glad to hear that things are working out for you my friend.

Update - I've been over in Scottsdale since the last full week in October - three weeks a month basically. Work is fine, but living over here by myself, especially in a hotel, SUCKS! I don't think single living in an Apt. would be much better, frankly. I let them know yesterday that while I like the work, my life, family, etc. are all in SoCal and I just can't see living apart from that. They were understanding, but disappointed too. They came back this morning wanting to guarantee my employment here thru April of next year at least. Basically through the company fiscal year end March 31st and the audit.

They even offered to just have me over here for the first week of each month to close the books and work from either home or office in Costa Mesa the remainder of each month. Working from home would be nicer and would allow me time to job search and hopefully interview a little more freely than being in AZ!

I'm torn. I need to move on with my life and job, but the guarantee of another 4 months employment is enticing in this market. No retention bonus has been offered...yet. If I said yes, I'd feel obligated to meet my commitment which makes it hard to search for a position. I've held off a full on job search this year because of my commitment to projects (nice retention bonuses too!) that have kept me employed to this point. Recruiters are reluctant to do much in this type situation too from what I've experienced this past year!

Experian is a dying company in SoCal - finance anyway. They just did another round of layoffs last week and I hear there's another reorg already in the works. No future with them, even after 10 years. I just want to bail with the severance package that's still on the table and concentrate on a full time job search. I know its 'easier' to look and be employable while employed, but this is getting ridiculous.

Scottsdale itself is a beautiful area, plenty of golf courses to play - daily fee of course which just adds to the financial burden. Weather now is perfect - mid 70's every day. Certainly won't be in the summer - 110-120 days! Yikes! I'd begun looking into 1 bedroom apts and in the immediate area to work $850-950 plus $200-400 in utilities (electric, cable, etc.) depending on the time of year. Basically just to be here is a good $1400/mo over what we have in SoCal and there's no guarantee of a raise with a permanent job here. While I wouldn't want to purchase in the first year, I could buy a nicer 2 bed/bath condo for about the same or less than a 1 bed/bath apt.! They hadn't got to the job offer stage with me and I felt they were dragging their feet. Experian moves slow on a lot of things, but this was eating at me given that I was being told I was the person they wanted for the job. Was beginning to feel like I was being led on so to speak.

What sage advice does Mud have?

Hey Brent - Have you looked at doing project work through one of the accounting/finance head hunters you work with? I know that for a lot of them this is their bread and butter business alongside placing people permanently. You can work as an interim Controller or Accounting Manager while you continue looking and one of the projects could lead to a full time position or at the very least help you network further.

The other benefit is that you can put Consultant on your resume during your search and not have any dead space during this time. Sounds like your not too happy in AZ and your right in that it limits your search and interview capabilities.

Dan

One of my recruiters - it's all he pushes is the consulting gigs. He does perm, but his strength is consulting. Not my cup of tea, but when push comes to shove, you are correct that it looks great on the resume AND it continues to bring in the $$. Sign on and it can include some limited benefits as well. All the others, that I've dealt with in the past have been silent to worthless so far. To be fair, I haven't been on their cases either because of the lucrative retention bonuses I've had.

Tempted to take the 1 week in AZ, three weeks at home as it'd give me the 'guarantee' of 4 more months of income/employment and a little more freedom to look at home while employed. Boss has even said she'd leave it to me how many days I 'think' I need to be over here. Should I find something, two weeks notice and I'm gone. It's an at will employment from both sides and they've not offered any retention bonus at this point to entice me to stay the 4 add'l months. So long as I keep it a temporary assignment and not 'accept' a permanent position in the eyes of HR, my soon to be 10 weeks severance (10 yr anniversary is 12.20.14!) is still on the table. Already talked to them about leaving me a CA employee so I can accrue more vacation hours under CA law than Experian policy/AZ laws. CA laws say employers have to let employees accrue 125% of our annual vacation. The other states don't have an employee friendly law like that on the books. Basically I can accrue an add'l 50 hours to get paid out on in CA than I can in AZ. Also, HR may construe me being an AZ employee and therefore having accepted employment within Experian if I shift to being an AZ employee. Do not want that argument as I'd likely have to go to the EDD if Experian didn't agree with my position. PITA that would be!

Work is fine, limited in scope of what I'd truly like, but that's Experian and it's why the former Accounting guy left. It's the living over here with my life of the past 30+ years in SoCal that's got me about as depressed as I've ever been in my life. Life is just to short to live this way.

How's your acquisition job situation looking?

Well, the saga is over. I got tired of the promises of a job offer/permanent position here in Scottsdale or even Costa Mesa part time and began seriously looking.

I FOUND A NEW JOB!!! I start June 1. It's right in Irvine.

It's hard leaving after 10 years, but exec mgmt just couldn't make up their minds and I'd had enough of being in limbo!

Congrats!!! Now find me one :flipoff2:

I'd try if I knew what the :censor: you did besides post on MUD, mod your truck and make cool stuff for our trucks!

Lots of stuff happening in the OC, but it's way to far from the SF Valley.:( Tell the :flamingo: to make partner quicker so you can retire permanently! :D

Congrats!!! I need to find an I.T. job closer to home, I'm wasting 2-3 hours a day on the freeway driving to DTLA, time I can spend with my kids.
I don't think Joey is really looking for a job, as long as he's acting like he's looking, that's all his wife want to see. :zilla:

Nice, good hear to it's closer to home. Maybe we can hit up On Target now that you're back to the OC full time.

Congrats Brent!!! 10 years is a long time and change is good.

I'll have an update on my situation in a few weeks. It's been a long road but "chaos creates opportunity".;)

Hoping for the best for you as well Dan!!!! We need to get out camping sometime soon.
