Slow moving

On Friday I thought I'd get a jump on things and install the lift...alone. Well, I almost finished the passenger front. Wrapped it up on Saturday with a little help and a lot of knowledge. I did however install my newly covered seats and hung one freshly painted fender. Mainly the goal was to find why I had not fire to the dash. Once we cleaned the fuse bos and purchased all new (correct amps) fuses were getting close. Hopefully I can finish the lift this week and show off some new shoes (on new painted wheels). I also knocked out installing a new Toyota heater valve. Mine was leaking from the top with no fixing. More to come....

I love DMV

Thanks Ramon, it has been tough pushing through but we're close. Every night I work on it I break something or put it on wrong. 2 step forward one back every day..

I have to share my DMV story. Today, hump day, I was feeling pretty good and in a good mood. So I told the boss I need to run to DMV since I was in a good mood and knew they would easily put me in a bad one. Title, proof of insurance and an old registration card off I went. Stopped by the ATM knowing they take cash or check. Small line and then a cheerful attendant. She said I see you haven;t had it registered since April of 1998. Yes, I said, still in my name but not registered since 98. Told her I was restoring it etc. etc. She said you turned in your old plates? I said yes mama, I did. She said yes, in April of 98, okay, but she said you cancelled your insurance in March of 1998? I said maybe, I did it when it stopped running and was no longer on the road, called the insurance man to save a dollar then turned in the plates when I came to downtown Raleigh. Well she said the computer shows that you had a valid plate with no insurance, huh? 14 years ago I cancelled the insurance then turned in the platers as asked to do. Yes, but there was 30 days you had a plate with no insurance, that a $100 fine. So instead of a $33 fee for plates I had a $133 fee for plates. Trust me it changed my day. I went to three different attendants different times and got the same response. Seems 14 years ago they put it in the computer so if my 40 was registered by me again I had to pay the fine. I tired very hard but no way out. Then the one guys asks "so what do you want to do?" Duh, did you hear, I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR 2 YEARS, uh i want the ___ plates, that is unless your gonna let me drive it without them.... I love DMV> They did bring me back to my normal state of mind for the rest of the day. Got to love it. I did however get a certified copy of all the titles my 40 has had. Born to the Carolina's July 27th of 1976 through CLT and originally sold on Bragg Boulevard Oct of 76 at Carr Automotive. Good to know she has never left the Olde North State.

Friday

Lots of things coming together. New socks and shoes!! New BFG MT 33x10.5 on stock toyota wheels freshly painted. You can see I have mounted one fnew fender. Mt painter went ahead and tested the 621 Rustic Green on some parts also. This week we installed the new covered front seats. And today I finished the 2.5 OME lift. Took me many days working only an hour or so at a time.

plates and seats

Bought two 1976 NC license plates off ebay to run on "Clover" Good luck is that in 76 the truck plates came with green letters to match. Also a picture of new SOR seat covers installed by Auto Tops and Interiors. Looks good.

Maiden Voyage

This past week and weekend was a blur. In the last 10 days I think I have worked on the project 9 days. 2 hours here 6 hours there. The lift was complete last week, tires mounted and started putting body panels back on during the week. On Friday we worked long enough to close the hood. That was enough for me. We fired the beast up and drove it for the first time in 14 years. No exhaust so it was loud but it rode well. I can say the BFG's and the OME lift made it ride better than I expected. Still working on an alternator charging issue, not sure if it's working or I have something hooked up wrong. Checking that today. Ordered a voltage regulator just in case so we'll be set. Plans are right now to drive it to Henry's Muffler shop on wednesday to get a pipe and muffler. I'll put some water to it this week and try and wash off 14 years of oxidation. On Sunday I drove it to the gas station for the first time and wouldn't you know drove past where channel 5 was shooting video of an incident the night before and we were on the 6 o'clock news. First ride and on TV to prove it. More to come during the week. Thanks to all for the encouragement and well wishes. Ramon, the bezel was the best piece to install (up right, mind you) Thanks.

Looking good!

Ask the guys at the muffler shop to run the exhaust pipe between the frame rails and above the skid plate so you don't end up bashing it on the trails. I had mine re-run not long ago as I'd bashed mine several times at URE.
