Sorry for the long delay, but I have been sorting some things out with the rig. It had been doing great, but had a lingering white/grey smoke that was bugging me. I had done the injectors and everything else that I could think of, so I was kinda set on the injection pump needed a rebuild. Not knowing the history of the motor, I thought what the hell, it won't hurt. So I pulled the pump and had it rebuilt, got it back and installed it, and.....guess what, it didn't run worth a sh!t! I checked timing, triple checked timing, and everything was how I left it when I pulled the pump. So, I took the truck down to my mechanic that works on my big trucks, and said "have fun"!
He ended up pulling the pump after he did all the same stuff I just did, and sent it to his pump shop. They found the pump was set 2 deg. retarded. They set it 2 deg. advanced, and it went back in and still had a little smoke issue. So, they pulled the injectors, and they found that someone (me), had put the copper washers on the injectors upside down on two of the injectors! So now this is funny, when I was re-installing the injectors after the first rebuild, the washers would slip off, so I would kinda wiggle them with a screwdriver until I could drop the injector in. I didn't think they would go in upside down! Whoops! So I learned a valuable (albeit expensive) lesson. So now I am waiting on my injectors to come back and should be up and going.
On the bright side, my compression across the board is 320, so it's in a good range I think.
And now for answers to your questions, egts will get up to 1200 and hold on long climbs, but never really go over that. And from what I have read that is acceptable for this engine.
RPM's- no idea, my tach is not functional right now, it's on the list. Although at 65-75 the engine feels very comfortable.
The Amsoil system-I plumbed it in to the filter adapter that comes with the Almaras trans adapter, super easy, the filter kit even comes with all the hoses and fittings you need.
Overall I love this rig! I am getting 16-18 mpg or so, and expect that to go up now that I have my injection issues fixed
On the cummins-I just scored a 93 with a serious rod knock for almost nothing. I am doing a 5.9 and NV4500 in that one soon.
