Isuzu 4BD1-T swap into a '92

Ok, so I put forth a menial effort to figure out what my fuel mileage actually is. With the 33's it is actually 17. I just put 315's on it, I'll keep ya posted on the changes.

Not too bad, combined city/hwy with a RTT and the added weight. I would have gotten 9-10MPG with my 1FZ.

Interested to see how the 315's change it. Are they a MT?

Did you ever consider using a NV4500? I'm in my research phase of the conversion right now and I am leaning towards swapping in a NV4500 and hopefully getting the stock 97 transfer case on it.

Any updates, rpm, egts etc.?

What aren't you happy with and making you think the Cummins?

How did you hook up the Amsoil dual filter system?

Great looking swap, thanks for all the detail!

Sorry for the long delay, but I have been sorting some things out with the rig. It had been doing great, but had a lingering white/grey smoke that was bugging me. I had done the injectors and everything else that I could think of, so I was kinda set on the injection pump needed a rebuild. Not knowing the history of the motor, I thought what the hell, it won't hurt. So I pulled the pump and had it rebuilt, got it back and installed it, and.....guess what, it didn't run worth a sh!t! I checked timing, triple checked timing, and everything was how I left it when I pulled the pump. So, I took the truck down to my mechanic that works on my big trucks, and said "have fun"!

He ended up pulling the pump after he did all the same stuff I just did, and sent it to his pump shop. They found the pump was set 2 deg. retarded. They set it 2 deg. advanced, and it went back in and still had a little smoke issue. So, they pulled the injectors, and they found that someone (me), had put the copper washers on the injectors upside down on two of the injectors! So now this is funny, when I was re-installing the injectors after the first rebuild, the washers would slip off, so I would kinda wiggle them with a screwdriver until I could drop the injector in. I didn't think they would go in upside down! Whoops! So I learned a valuable (albeit expensive) lesson. So now I am waiting on my injectors to come back and should be up and going.

On the bright side, my compression across the board is 320, so it's in a good range I think.

And now for answers to your questions, egts will get up to 1200 and hold on long climbs, but never really go over that. And from what I have read that is acceptable for this engine.

RPM's- no idea, my tach is not functional right now, it's on the list. Although at 65-75 the engine feels very comfortable.

The Amsoil system-I plumbed it in to the filter adapter that comes with the Almaras trans adapter, super easy, the filter kit even comes with all the hoses and fittings you need.

Overall I love this rig! I am getting 16-18 mpg or so, and expect that to go up now that I have my injection issues fixed

On the cummins-I just scored a 93 with a serious rod knock for almost nothing. I am doing a 5.9 and NV4500 in that one soon.

I've been tossing using my A442 vs an A440. What are your thoughts on it? I like that the 440 would drop my highway RPM's a bit.

Not sure on the A442, the only thing I know is that you need to run a separate controller for it, and tune it.

Truck is running great! Fuel and timing are cranked, barely any black smoke at WOT. It's no rocket ship, but has plenty of giddy-up for around town. I finally got my glow plugs hooked up too. With the advanced timing cold starts are a little rough with out em. EGT's are topping out around 1100 on long grades, that's lower than before. I was going to post some fuel economy report, but my wife fueled the truck today partially and didn't look at the trip odo, oh well. I'll get something up one of these days. I was having a overheating issue momentarily, but a new thermostat has seemed to fix it.

Did you by chance keep track of the size of the snout that was welded on? Dustin evidently doesn’t know what size it was. Just curious if you measured it and what have you before you slapped it together.

Hi folks. I'm fairly new here. I own an Isuzu Trooper (2000 year model). I intend swapping it's 4jg2 engine for 4bd1t because of the reliability of the latter engine.
Just wants to know if the 4bdt can fit into the engine bay of the trooper?
Suggestions and recommendations are most welcome.
