Burrning fry oil, smells more like french fries and would make you hungry the whole trip if your tailing me(just kiddin).

If Able goes good on moving to the island then thats another good cruiser head, lets hope.

Mind you....... we do not want anymore people moving here, after 12 years on the mainland I do not want the word getting out how much fun we have over here.

Lets get that chapter going.

New rule: no diesels, too stinky:D

Back on subject now :D

I sent an e-mail to the TLCA board asking a few questions about sub-chapters, how other clubs in large areas deal with this, or if it is best to go as a completely separate club.

Or...even if it is best to have everyone join up with the CC's, and be a member from a distance.

Dunno...will see what the responses are, and have a discussion ourselves to see what sit's best with the majority.

Not that we have any say at all in what ya'll do over there, however it may well help discussion with trying to increase mebership in the Coastal Cruisers and how to deal with Fraser Valley membership.

Not a problem.

Lone Star has satellites and we all get along just fine (we got 3 BJ42's and a BJ60 too).

I responded to Greg's questions directly. The short skinny is this: TLCA imposes it's rules only to assure your bylaws promote Toyota wheeling, you keep at least 4 TLCA members, your non-Toyota members never amount to more than 30% of your membership, and you follow the safety rules while using TLCA insurance at your events.

So... you could have a guy in Texas as a dues paying member and TLCA would say, "cool."

The rub occurs if your satellite group decides they want to do something different from the parent chapter. One chapter, one vote in TLCA. The only option then is for the satellite to become an independent chapter.

Y'all holler at me if I can help. Also, if you decide to banish anymore HJ45's out of British Columbia, let me know. I can always use another road trip. ;-)

Happy Trails! N

An island chapter may be a good thing...

tho I'm not much of a joiner, rules and meetings give me indigestion, and I'm allergic to the mainland...I'd probably chuck my name into the hat.

you couldn't expect islanders to have to go to the mainland for anything tho. mainland trips amount to a hundred bucks and a daylong headache usually.

most islanders can't even be bothered to join the biggest local message board...
(something about an unwillingness to goosestep but that's a whole other thing)

other than that , why not?

I'm sure there's enough yokel's around here that we could get a mob together, pitchforks, torches, that sort of thing.

cheers,
ryan

OK, I'm finally back to civilization.... Seapotato fire an email me at cruisermark@shaw.ca

This far I haven't got a huge response, but theres a couple guys I gotta get ahold of locally to talk to.

Steve I'll give you a shout tommorow.

well...

how do islanders think a mainland based club could better suit wheelers on the island?

i for one (well two i guess, my wife feels the same) think that if there is enough interest amongst islanders to start an island based TLCA chapter, would it not make sense to have it based here, and not vancouver. i don't want to feel like anyone's red headed step-child.

as my oceanic and tuberous friend has stated "you couldn't expect islanders to have to go to the mainland for anything". a phone call is long distance from here. you can only get to van by ferry (if you want to take your truck) from 7am till 9pm if the damn things are on time, or you don't have to wait 5 hours for the next one, and you've got the extra $$$ to get there and still it's an hours drive to vancouver.

it's my hope that there will be enough interest here to start a club locally, with local members and local trail knowlage and connections. if you want to join coastal crusiers, it seems like they would be more than happy to accept members from the island. why complicate the issue?

i'm sure coastal cruisers is a great club, i regularly see members on this board and others, they seem like nice folks, but i have no interest in joining CC. i just can't see the value when i live in victoria.

OK, back home again. I got stuck in snow near Bella Bella for an extra day. Lots of fun.

Crusty where are you at?

Ok Crusty what do you think about meetings, as in location and frequencey? Do you know any other cruiser people down there that might be interested? I emailed Rob from IRC and got no reply from him. I don't know anyone else down there.

heh, took me a minute to realize that I was the oceanic and tuberous one...:grinpimp: and I keep forgetting to check this board.

I totally agree with crusty. if it's based in vancouver, it may as well be based on the moon.

I'm in Chemainus out by the arena. ( you may have seen the cruiser midden.)

flyinglow, I'm pretty sure we talked about hardtop bits and pieces recently , I have the crappy one out back with the axe poised over it, I didn't recognize youre name at first.

as for meeting locations, buggered if I know, what does one require for that ? There's a fair bit of farting around and legwork involved in doing this I can see, but the extra step to not have to ride the ferries ( specially with the damn things running aground and sinking left and right) is probably worth it.

cheers,
ryan

hey!

this thread is still alive.

flyinglow, meetings could be once a month or two, as for location... wherever. i'm not into going to NAN. but something that works for everyone works for me. i don't mind driving the cruiser:D

as for other cruiser people... i don't know. but this i know for sure: the pig is in, the potato is in, and me. that's three. i'm sure there could be more.

oh, and if jesus didn't build your hotrod, forget the irc.:flipoff2:

Is he a local victoria guy? ;)

I've been away a bit and I got a big project (new garage) right now on the house so I'm kinda tied up. I have a couple guys in the Courtney area interested (greencruiser is one of em) and a guy in Duncan. I should contact John Barron in Duncan too and see if he's interested. Duncan or Shawnigan would be good meeting spots. If someone wants to arrange a meeting, I'll try to make it. I have a weird work schedule though and I need to get my garage built too. Does someone want to take charge of arranging a meeting?

You Coastal Cruiser guys can kick us off your board if you want.... I should maybe move this to Chat or something.

Ya thats me. Sorry I couldn't make it last weekend. I had to get my old deck torn down so I could start construction. As it turns out Terasen is dragging their feet now on the simple gas line relocation which holds up excavation..... I will call you this weekend

I think ya'll should just keep using this forum till you need/want your own. But then I do not call the shots here...

Good on ya all to get another chapter formed.

Island TLCA Chapter?!!!

Is this idea still alive? I'm interested for sure! I've only been on the rock alittle bit over a year and have only made small diversions off the logging roads on the southern part of the island.
Please keep me in the know as this develops and if you need some help around Victoria (I'm in Langford)

Cheers-
