Is Transfer Case Really Locked???

How can I tell if the Transfer case is locked?

Awhile back, I changed the O-ring on the actuator. Was not confident that the actuator had gone back onto the rack in the correct spot. Yesterday morning I removed the actuator again and reinstalled it on the rack. The actuator engaged with the rack in exactly the same spot as the first time. Near as I can tell, the actuator and rack are hooked up just as they were before the O-ring change.

Soooo, there is a light rain falling right now, went out and put the GX in "locked" mode to see what would happen. Made a series of 90 degree turns on the damp pavement. I could not tell any difference in the turns between locked and unlocked modes. Would going to 4-low make a difference? If I jack up the truck and get the wheels off the ground, is there a way to tell?

((Just because the "locked" light comes on it does not mean the rack is being pulled out of the transfer case to the locked position. It just means the actuator motor and gears are turning.)))

Well, at least there were no 'expensive noises' coming from under the truck!!!

EDIT: Pavement is almost dry. Tried 4-low. The truck did not go to the locked mode automatically. Thought it was supposed go into locked mode when shifted to 4-low??
Anyway, I pushed the 'locked' button and tried 90-degree turns again. Thought I detected a little tire scrubbing but not sure.

I can definitely feel the difference, especially when turning on dry pavement with my HF2A, between running the center diff locked and unlocked...high or low range. You will also experience larger turn radius with the CD locked. Sounds like your CD is not locking...
 
The lock is working! It's raining again so I went over to a high school parking lot. Did some tight turns unlocked and repeated in locked mode. Did this several times. Definitely a difference! I guess the 'mild' 90 degree turns on wider streets were not enough to test. I'm a happy camper!
