Is this rust too much?

Looking to purchase this 470. It lived in Michigan and Illinois for a bit. Here is what looks to be the worst of it. Let me know if it's a go or a no.

Im not qualified to comment on rust because I’ve lived in California all my life.

Based on pictures I’ve seen in this site, that looks like mild surface rust.

That does not look too bad to me. The worst spots for these for rust are on the passenger side of the frame, right in front of the body mount (the AC drip line drops water right on the frame). The inside of the frame can be pretty bad in this area - even if the outside looks good - so be sure to inspect the inside via one of the OEM holes in this area (either probe with a finger and/or shine in a light). Also, the rear section of the frame behind the rear axle can be pretty bad from salt/mud getting accumulating behind the rear tires. If those areas check out with nothing other than surface rust I would not be concerned, but would still give the frame a good Fluid Film or Woolwax treatment if you buy it (inside and out).

Guy want's $14k for it. 2005 with 196k miles. The rest looks clean

When was the timing belt changed last? Also drive it with the windows down to listen to the engine under load. I made this mistake and didnt catch the infamous ticking of a cracked exhaust manifold.

30k miles ago. It looks clean. It's 8 hours away so all right now is pictures.

Ticking will be worst on a cold start and is very obvious if you are standing outside the vehicle near the front.

Looks pretty "ok" from where I am sitting.

michigan resident here. thats just a little surface rust. hit it with a wire wheel and some rust protectant spray and youre fine.

like others have said, check the frame areas mentioned.

Looks even cleaner than the one I just purchased in Florida. Same year and miles, Sport model with KDSS. I paid $11,500 2 months ago. Nothing overly concerning in that pic at all (from another salt belter)

The seller played too many games for me. Listing said $14k, but in the info section, he was asking $13k obo. I offered $11k and he told me the price was now $15k. Too much bs for me to risk when i would have to fly there for it. That being said, I've got $12k to try and find one!

Thats always funny when they say OBO and you give them your best, and I assume he was offended by it or something, then raises the original asking price just to 'show you.'

If your search area is large enough where you're flying to pick it up...head south! There are some with ZERO rust for what you budgeted for.
