Hello,
Before going offroading this morning, I was doing check-ups,,,, decided to open the engine oil-fill cap, and saw this dry oil ,,,, is this evidence of sludge or dirt in the engine?
Previous owner said he always used synthetic.
I got the car 3 months ago at 235km, now it is at 241km.
I used 5w-30 M1 with YZZD3 filter immediately when I got it.
Only 6km on the oil, I was planning to go 15km.
Should I flush it with new oil to get the dirt out?

Sorry this might be stupid but my previous BMW didnt have dry oil like this,,

I plan on getting ARB breather for diffs + t.case installed next week, and will change all fluids in the driveline in prep for my trip coming up, so might as well change engine oil too while it is up on the hoist?

,,,,,,,,,,,,, or I am just paranoid?

Thanks!

Get a borescope to verify if you are paranoid.:meh:

Looks normal for the mileage for the filler.

Well that was helpful, thank you sir!
How many miles on that engine when u took the pic? Whats ur OCI?
Your oil fill hole looks similar to mine, if thats normal on these engines I will just leave it until 15km.
Thanks again!! :)

Somewhere around 210k miles.
What's OCI, oil change interval? Between 7500 and 10k miles with mobil 1 and a yota filter.

Awesome, looks clean with 200k miles on it,,,
Since u have been using the same combo with good results, will keep mine to 15km too until I reach Alaska.
Will switch to M1 Extended Performance on the next change since it is only $5 difference when on sale.

Thank you once again!!! :)

The extended performance Mobil 1 is full of zinc and phosphorus, it can kill your cats and O2 sensors.
Basically they take normal M1 and load it up on anti wear additives to get it to the 15,000 mile service interval.
If you are that worried about it I would do a service oil sample at your next PM.

That is the only way to know for 100% how often you should change your oil.

Thanks for the advice,
but do u have a link to a proof of the side effects u mentioned of EP?
Most of my research on 2uz shows it is good with no mention of the things u stated.

You are correct about BlackStone,
I did the oil analysis when I had the BMW, might do it for the LX if I decide to keep it after my trip.

Personal experience with the zinc, wives Volvo, my Land Rover. Ruined the cat on her car, O2's on my truck.

Interesting read,
but I see a lot of people on the internet and here on mud using EP for long duration on 2uz without issues.
But thank you for the advice ,,,
