Is there a mod to retain ABS with part time kit?

G'day all.

I have a 105 series and am thinking of putting a part time four wheel drive kit in it but I would like to keep ABS.

I think 80s and 105s have the same set up on the front.

Is there a mod to do this? Maybe move the sensor or put an after market sensor kit on?

At least in the U.S., potential liability prevents any aftermarket company from creating such a kit. Could someone create a brake rotor mounted sending ring and matching sensor or the like? Yes. But given the liability and the infinitesmal market (perhaps 100 a year) would it be worth the investment? No chance.

That's what amazes me as we have liability issues over here aswell, but I can purchase a kit to make my car illegal (part time kit removes ABS) but I can't get a kit to legalise it.(retain ABS)

I don't see liability as being the concern. There are zillions of aftermarket brake suppliers equally liable for product performance.

The aftermarket demand for part time 4x4 fzj80 ABS conversion has got to be minuscule. I don't see where there would be any payback on the investment to R&D and manufacture such a product.

Perhaps you can lock the hubs in during the wet/snowy months for ABS. Remainder of the time, you'll have no ABS. I don't know about others, but it would be a cold day in hell when I'm able to lock up the front wheels of my 80! YMMV of course.

It's not just liability you need to worry about there is also the legality of disconnecting the ABS to consider. If the vehicle was involved in an accident that resulted in personal injury and the removal of ABS was found to be a contributing factor you could find your self in a whole bunch of trouble with the law.

when it comes down to it a good driver can stop shorter then a car with abs anyway, so to me loosing the abs is a good thing, i dont like abs fitted cars

but as you say the insurance companies will always try to get out of things and if its found with no abs you wont be covered and up the creek without a paddle
