Cracked plastic timing gear.

Just for my reference, where is there a plastic timing gear in a 3FE? The dizzy gear?

Timing gear that meshes with the crank gear. Technically, there is no plastic timing gear with the factory setup. The rebuild kit the machinist used came with a plastic replacement. OEM for the 3FE is a composite fiber gear. I one upped it and installed the OEM metal gear that is used on the 2F. If the metal one breaks, I have bigger issues
