mileage 80s. I was wondering if there was any reverse effects to to sitting most it's life. Just wondering. I'm finally starting to look more serious now, and I have found some low mileage 80s, but wanted to make sure before I decide which one to go with. When I say low I'm talking 50k, although I found one with 11k on it too. Talk about never being driven.

Thanks,
JSB

May not have anything to do with you but....

If you found some ultra-low mileage 80's on autotrader that are from a used dealer in Florida (Carsearch USA or something) don't hold your breath. There's one particular scammer out there that routinely plays bait and switch.

JSB,

No particular concern, just do some research on any vehicle you are considering and don't let down your guard on the mechanical checks because you think it has low mileage.

Mine had 34k on it when I bought it on 7-4-2004, very clean. It now has 38.5k with zero problems, but it has some Arizona pinstripe and rock rash from beating it in the desert! :D

Actually, two of the three I was looking at were from that guy. Is he bad news. I've sent a couple of emails, but I haven't got any response. The third is an actual toyota dealership. I was concerned since they would be coming from Florida, since all the hurricanes they've had. I didn't want some 80 that has been standing in 6 feet of water.
So give me the goods, before I make a mistake.

Yes.

Common sense dictates that all vehicles that have spent time in that part of the Gulf coast or anywhere in Florida could have water damage. Do your homework.

my only concern would lets engine oil set a long time inbetween oil changes and the coolant build up or fall out in the radiator. later robbie

I just got an email back from him. Completely generic. He didn't answer a single question, basically said he has the best inventory, and he hand pics each one, he also offers 100% money back guaranty satifaction, bla bla bla. I replied GREAT, now answer the questions. That's too bad, they appear to look in great shape, and low mileage. I guess I'm down to the one then.

Is his name John? If yes, then keep looking for a reputable dealer. I'm pretty sure he's no longer permitted to sell on eBay. I could be wrong.

Yes, they do look good. That's because the pictures and mileage were from when he had those vehicles for sale in 1998.

Where in FLorida?. I'm in Miami, if is around here, i can go and check them out for you! Just let me know.

I just did a search on the site here. Apparently I'm not the first to seem like I found a gold mine. At first I was pissed, because you guys were killing my find, but very happy, because you guys helped me avoid a stiff kick in the nuts. THANKS!

BTW Beowulf...it is good old John Boy.

That Florida guy needs his arse kicked. I had a couple co-workers traveling in that area and asked them to stop in and check out a couple cruisers for me. I had been e-mailing the guy but same as you stated, he seemed dodgy in his answers. I was very serious about flying down there to buy one. Co-workers stopped in, dealer had nothing but high mileage rigs. They took a few pics for me and brought them back. The cruiser were the freakin same as the ones on autotrader! He was posting pictures of the high mileage rigs on autotrader and then claiming they had super low miles. So - every chance I get I love to warn folks off of him to make up for his wasting my time.

Anyway- as Junk would say, "he's poison"

Your two cents is appreciated emensely. If there's one thing I hate, it's people wasting my time. Hopefully, this last lead will turn out.

Thanks again,
JSB

I talked to a rep at the Carsearch USA site when I was looking for my truck. He offered to fly me down to FT. Lauderdale/Miami (I am in North Fl) but I never went. The trucks look to good to be true on the website. Interesting to hear they might not be as good as they looked online. I could not figure out how someone could find all of these low mileage perfect looking trucks and always have them in inventory.

After my troubles on my low mile truck, I think low miles alone while tempting, has nothing to do with how the truck was maintained. In my long process to find a clean truck, I looked at a few trucks that had low mileage but were trashed inside and out. From what I have learned, I would take a clean, books and record higher milleage truck over a "no clue where it came from" low mile truck any day.

and believe andrew when he says that, he's talking from experience. ;)
