Hey everyone

I am trying to find out if my ABS is working on my 1997 LC. I went on a dirt road to lock up the wheels and see if it works. I am able to lock up the wheels but I don’t get a ABS warning light on the dash. Is that normal or will the ABS light turn on when it activates?

Under normal operation the only light is when the ABS is disabled while the CDL is locked. When disabled and you exceed 33 MPH the system will stay disabled until the ignition is turned off. If ABS is working then you should feel a pulsing in the brake pedal and there should be no locking up of the brakes. The exception may be speeds under 5 MPH. If you have a light then there is a fault in the system.

I usually test by going about 30 on a grass field or sand. Slam on the brakes with all my weight and strength. Feel the pulsing pedal. You can’t do it at 5 or 10 mph. Full strength, not jus a hard push.
