Is it safe to run "C" rated tyres on the 100?

Sorry if not in the tyre section of the forum, but need input from 100 owners..

So the problem is that I'd like to get new tyres on my rig. But here in europe there is a limited choice, we don't have the D/E rated BFG's. I'd love the BFG KO2's, but they only come in 116/113 (1250kg/2755lbs) load range, which I believe is the low of the "C" rating.

The question is, is it safe to use such light duty tire on the truck? Or should I give up BFG and go for a different brand with higher load rating?

Thanks & cheers

I do not know what the load requirements are for a 100 series Cruiser so I can't speak for that exact model tire - but as long as the tire meets or exceeds the load requirements of your Cruiser, and is inflated to the required pressure to achieve that rating, then yes, they're safe to run.

How shallI calculate that? 4x2755lbs has to be larger than the weight of the truck + load?

correct me if im wrong, but the only reason "offroaders" want the E rating is for perceived "greater" side wall strength when inflating down to lower than normal PSI on the trails.

my overlanding schedule is now cut in half or worse now that my kids are in school and i am eyeing load C tires (which weigh less) for better MPG on my daily drives.

Running P rated 4 ply tires in a 275/65/18 that weigh 39lbs. It's my daily.

If I went E rated, they'd weigh 59lbs.

C rated tires are a sweet spot for 100 series.

Go with load C tires - they are still stiffer than what these trucks originally came with. The only reason to with higher load rating is to be able to run a really low tire pressure when going over rough terrain and still avoid punctures.

Thank you all! I’ve ordered them just now:) we’ll se how it turns out

The stock LTX tire is a P-metric tire with a load rating of 2,640 lbs. FMVSS says when using a P-metric tire on a Light Truck, the tire's rating should be derated by a factor of 1.10

So the adjusted rating is 2372 lbs. Your chosen BFG tire is a LT tire rated at 2755 lbs which is well above the stock tire.

I think tire manufacturers are generally making lots of E load tires so they can sell the same tire to a broader range of vehicles. I'm even starting to see F-load MT tires now. E load tires should have better puncture resistance but the C-load tires will conform to rocks much better (plus lighter weight). Given a choice, I'd choose C or D load tires..... D for the really heavy 100's.

The Ford Raptor comes with C rated tires stock, with the LC you should have no problem running the same kind of tire unless the vehicle is heavily modified (like chopped and camper on the back).

Just occasional offroad & mainly highway / city

There's always a compromise on/offroad.. It's either great on one of the two, or s*ck at both:D

I have E on my truck and would be interested in switching to a lighter load tire if I hadn't seen 3 guys slash open KO2s on trails.

The ride sucks, but they've done me very well off-road.

I slashed my new toyo E 2 weeks ago, but then i came to know that the sidewall is only 3 plys, not 10, i wonder if all ratings get the same sidewalls

Here we go..

I have the same load range C KO2’s on my 80. You will love them!

They can only be better than the 10yo Hankook Dynapro ATM's they've swapped:D

Nice rims on that 80:)

BTW this is how it is on the C rated BFG KO2

Don't confuse 'ply rating' with actual construction, fellas

C is 6 ply rated. D is 8. E is 10, etc. Actual construction may be only 2 or 3 etc.
