Ok, i am planning on heading off to college next year and my parents have let me know i can take a car with me. Initially i has gonna be taking an 85 fj60 but now my dad has said he will just sell me our fj80 if i want it. I have driving this 80 for about a year now. i absolutely love it, 1994, front and rear lockers, leather, yakima roof rack, 231k miles. We have owned it since it had 30k miles so that is a plus, we know its history. He says he will sell it to me for 6,000. I realize that some one you guys have gotten similar 80's with half the miles for the same price but is this to high? To me, i think it is alright, i would have a hard time spending 6k on it. Also, another point i forgot to make, the brakes were just redone and the head gasket has already been redone so its something i shouldnt have to worry about.
Thanks

I think your dad is doing you a huge favor. Let's see, you can buy another 94 with 130k miles on it from a total stranger for the same money. Spend another 3 on maintenance that has never been done.

You know the truck, you know the owner and you know the history and $6k is a hell of a price.

Dude, you're not like thinking your pop is jacking you right? Of course it's a good deal. Coin up.

Oh, white means you'll get no chicks though :flipoff2:

I think you had already made up your mind by the time you started the thread and you were just looking for assurance, right? ;)

Well, you couldn't have received one from a better source than Christo and I couldn't agree with him more.

DO IT! You are lucky, driving a nice Cruiser as a college vehicle! %$#@^

Congrats! (In a little advance :) )

Oh, now you've got one from Junk!

I would agree with Christo, but Junk?... :D :D :D

I think it all boils down to condition and your level of comfort with the rig.....you said that you have drove it for about a year now so you know/have seen every little flaw, if one of these rigs are proply maintained that counts a ton in my book so if it has been I would think it is probably worth it, I would check out www.cars.com or some other site for the next month or two (if you have that kind of time to make the decision) and scout prices on others not so much to look to buy but look to bargin with, show your dad what others that year and apparent conditon are going for if it is less than 6k, when I was ooking out here in NE, I found a '93 with 125k that had been taken care of but didn't have leather, tow pkg, running boards, air bags, etc so I thought that for a few grand more I could get the same miles with all the extras and a few years newer so I decided to go with something newer.....hence the '97, it was about 3500 more than the '93 which was a little high to begin with..........anyway thats my opinion, good luck

How far away is college, how often do you plan to come home, and are you going on tour with String Cheese?

I've got mine at school and I'm the cool kid in town. :D All ya need is a lift tires and some armor and then you can park where ever you want. people become afraid of a massive object with steel all over it moving towards them. $6k, i'm jelous. Def. go for it.

If something were to go wrong like tranny or other, your Dad likely would help you out and feel some sense of responsibility. Not going to get that from a stranger.

You could alawys ask him if he would take $5K or $5K if you keep a 3.0 average the first year or some type of negotiation. The worse he could say is no and you pay the $6K. Dad's are suckers for helping to incentivize good grades. I know I am a sucker in that area.

Wow! For 6K I dont think you can wrong, especially considering you know the history! There are some MUCH less reliable vehicles you could pick up with 1/4 that mileage for 6K.

....... and you'll be the cool kid at school too.

has the CV's been done?

How the heck do you have $6K to buy a truck while you're still in highschool - ;) - Lucky guy! Oh yeah, nice looking truck.
